New S 4-MATIC

Hey,

Does anyone know when a 4-matic version of the new s500 would be available. I know the 500 and 600 are due this fall and the amg versions next year but I haven't heard anything about 4-matic vehicles.

Thanks.

2007 S

I don't know about the 4 matic but I just read a few days ago that the new S won't be available until early 2006. I read this on mbusa.com, I think they just pushed it back a few months.

Hrmm...I am moving up north and really need a 4 wheel drive...since the new S is a big ? does anyone have input - G class or E 4matic (I know they are very different but I don't like the ML so those are my only choices).

Let me know what you think.

I'm very interested in the S 4MATIC, living where I am and having a general aversion to SUVs. I recall an early article that said something like "4MATIC will follow soon after (the car's release)." Let's hope it's not too long a time, they had a real good idea putting awd on almost all of their cars.

I'm in favour of putting awd systems on sedans and smaller cars, so I would of course recommend the E.

4matic is a very good feature in the snow days.

I believe the current e 4matic only applys on 5g transmission, if you want to have 7g one then you have to select rear drive.

Thanks everyone for your input. I actually test drove an E500 4matic today and was very impressed with the handling and acceleration...I thought it would be sub par compared to my sl but, like i said, it was impressive - definately made my decision easier...at this point I'm too impatient to wait for the S 4matic anyway

Im in favour of smaller cars aswell, torontos winters are killer, plus gas is expensive, go hybrid

Prior to the management shake-up the plan was to introduce a new S Class 4-matic as well. However, all things are on the table now so who knows if the model cutting will go beyond the reputed decision already made to make the S500 the base model (at least in the US). My guess is the 4-Matic will remain available on the new S but its introduction may be delayed beyond that first planned and it will probably be limited to a single model in the S range. The deposed management is being branded as having proliferated too many models across the ranges so one can expect the mantra of the new guys to be model elimination/consolidation.

When Mand Speaks, Mercedes Listens

Mand has laid down the gauntlet demanding smaller cars. Mercedes has responded to the challenge. Here is a prototype of the next next generation S Class that I am examining at a secluded location in Norwalk, Ohio last weekend.

Sorry - will have to provide a link as I got an error message that my photo file was too large (1520 x 1024, maximum allowed 800 x 600). Scroll to the bottom of the below link to see the stealth shot. I am wearing the green T shirt and the new S prototype (code name "King Midget") is the red vehicle next to me.

US release of the new S has always been scheduled for early 2006...February to be exact. There is no "delay." EU will get the car this fall and are getting them now.

Mercedes Listens

Anyone attempting to link to the photos of the micro S prototype referenced in my prior post will need to click on page one - and then scroll down, since the link takes you to page two for some odd reason.
