Thanks for the advice all...I went w/S550

I ordered the S550 with the Designo Espresso Edition, AMG Sport Package, P1A, Parktronic, Sirius, Bluetooth, Panorama Roof, Trunk Closer.

For my business, I thought the S550 would be a better choice for my clients to ride in, and the Designo/AMG will give me the edge I'm looking for.

I should have the car in August, I'll be sure to post pics. As much as I think the S8 is a great car...something tells me the novelty will wear off 3 months after owning it.

The car sounds gorgeous ! Even with my trepidation about a first year model, you made the same decision that I would make at this time. I totally agree with your critique of the S8 novelty and I think you will have years of enjoyment with the new S550. Now you need to get to Bergdorf's or Barney's and get some new suits to match the new ride ! Enjoy !

Congrat! I'm curious what the dealer told you. I had inquired about the designio edition with MBUSA and was told that orders wouldn't be taken until may with production to start in june and delivery in october/november at the earliest. is this what you were told? i could not wait so I opted for a obsididna black with AMG pack, bluetooth, keyless go, electronic trunk closer, and heated steering whell.

Designo builds are just now being accepted in the system, so my timing is good. My current lease is up 9/1/06, so my slated delivery time (August) is also good.

Stay close to your dealer and continue to check on the build decade throughout the process. Hopefully they are getting rid of the backlog and shortages of options but they do move builds to meet their needs and not the needs of the buyer. Get your copy of the NetStar status on a regular basis and watch that build decade.

NJ - Thanks for the advice. I've know my salesman for over 6 years, his wife is a Real Estate agent that uses my Mortgage firm, and we've got a pretty tight relationship. Plus, we developed some property for the owner of the dealership. They have always delivered, never a problem. The only potential problem would be the factory, I'm guessing.

yes that is what Jack means. In this case the dealer has no control.

Yes...I am talking about the factory. The dealer has had no control over his allocations and the factory just does what they have to do to produce cars with what they have.

The Voice Control/Handsfree phone hookup which is standard but installed at the VPC is on backorder nationally. Without that...there is not audio control of COMAND and no phone integration with the MHI cradle. In fact there is no cradle connection until that kit is installed. The code is 077 and indicates that the dealer will deliver the car without the phone. MBUSA called me and said it would be early Spring to early Summer before they have the stock to dealers for the install.

Damn... I guess I advance ordered the bluetooth module for nothing.

On a different, uplifting note, my dealer called me letting me know the boat is scheduled to arrive on 5/14, and it should be about 10 days before the car goes through customs and gets to the dealer. Woo-hoo!

Ok, so now I'm getting some info that the Designo must be ordered with the rear seat package and the power rear blinds. If that is correct, on top of the ridiculous $11,500 they charge for the Designo, I must now spend another $3K on options fit for a King???

Can anyone confirm this?

Great news J...have you heard about the possible longshoreman going on strike...I'm sure it's just a rumor but you may want to rent a crane and stand-by....LOL

Lightbulb All these S550 options shenanigans made me switch my order to an S 600

After hearing from my dealer that many of the options that I ordered for my S 550 would not be available, I just got fed up and switched my order to an S 600, because I have been told by numerous sources and from the mbusa website that the 600 has every option standard no questions asked and no B.S.. Plus, I have been told that there is shorter wait time for an S 600 versus a loaded with every option S 550. Having an S 550 with no night vision or camera, etc.. is ridiculous. Plus, getting a fully loaded S 550 with every conceivable option, including those two dvd screens attached to the rear headrests, will put you over 130k anyway, so might as well spend another 15 to 20k and get the real deal 600 with that monster twin-turbo V-12, then modify the software and get somewhere over 650 horsepower.

The only thing with the 600 I don't like is that it can't be ordered with the sport package, so I'll have to add that, and ofcourse the requisite K40 full system and the PermaFinish for the paint.

does anyone else agree that it might just be alot easier to order a 600 so you know for sure you're getting all the options and no b.s.?

I guess that is really your call...hard to know the wait time for a S600 unless the dealer has an allocation and it has a build date that will not move.

You still will have to add the rear TV screens to the S600...that is not part of the standard S600 package as far as I know. Have you checked with any dealers to see if they have a S600 in stock?

BTW...any S550 whether fully loaded or with selected options is the real deal....drive one and you will agree...
