That mod is all show, and has WORSE performance and little purpose. Its ok by me for people to do ego-ize their car, makes me look better. Just dont mistake the ego with style. The wheels themselves look nice, just way to big and wrong style for this car. You are not being "DIFFERENT" by getting these wheels, you are now just the same as everyone with big wheels.

Here's my crude profanation of his look, taking it in a direction I'd like to see with different rims, color-keying the chrome moldings, and tinting the windows....

^^^ very well put. Its about being an individual. Thats why there are so many different style(s) of wheels, bodykits, interiors, etc.
Those wheels do have quite a bit more class, than the sporty ones on there now.

Same for me

i would have to agree as well, stock wheels are just that, stock they add nothing to the car

As far as "stock" looking "ugly" and "add nothing" to the car...I beg to differ. Mine is "stock" AMG kit and that money was better spent than some chrome 22" rims and low profile tires. Just my opinion...sorry I like my setup better.

i'll agree with jack, his car looks perfect. I saw on Ebay the other day that Glauser has a Flint Grey S550 Sport on there, now that is the car I would order.

seems like there is an interesting debate over wheel size, some like after market wheels and some people do not. but to say 22's are over kill is like saying get the premium leather when the standard will surfice. a person just needs to make sure they get what they want and get a tire with a taller side wall, something like a 45 series, for example.

I agree it is all personal preference. But "stock" does not make a car "ugly" or "not add" to the appearance...I think the MB stock AMG kit shows that.
Exotic wheel designs in bigger sizes do not make a car unique but merely satisfy the owners who buy them. The aftermarket business loves it...:-)

jack, overkill is a relative term, some people might say all one needs is car not necessarily a mercedes. im just arguing the fact that most anything these days is overkill and besides i remember when most mercs rolled on 16's and that was way to big back then. i thougt amg was a mercedes benz after market tuning company not stock mercedes benz parts thus a little overkill if we are talking purely stock..

There is a difference between "tweaking" and "overkill" when it comes to bling, bling. Those 22" wheels as shown (and many in the images you posted) is nothing more than bling, bling. The AMG kit is part of a MB design feature and can be ordered from MB...my car is 100% "stock" MB.
Not much can be accomplished with this subject...personal preferences prevail and that's as it should be. My preference is to not destroy the original design features with bling...your preference may be totally different....but wrong...LOL

i see now, you ordered amg after market bling-bling and that makes it ok with you, cool.

Since when is stock ugly? Stock is beautiful. Aftermarket wheels may make the car look flashy, blingy, snazzy, tyte, whatever you call it. Some tasteful 18s and 19s make most Mercedes look very good, but for many cars, stock is not ugly.
As a matter of fact, large wheels are a new trend in my opinion. No one put 22s on cars back in...the 60s.

To me, wheels are not only a question of taste, it's also a question for performance and safety.
Those 22's simply scream ghetto and having no class but maybe that's just me... Besides that, extreme low profile tires are plain stupid from a performance standpoint. Great for cruising South Beach, but not much else.
Forget comfort and highspeed driving.
My 2 cents...

perception on what is bling/ghetto/overkill is up to each individual as no two persons will think/ perceive in the same way.
I'd say the 22" looks good on the S class, but if i had a choice of wheels, I would've gone for a wheel that had less gaps in between. There's just too much open space.
I had 22" on my Cayenne S. Perfect fit for the car in my opinion. Although it did defeat the purpose of going off road. But hey there's no where off road in Hong Kong to go
