Let us know, too, if it has wheel buttons or paddle buttons; there seems to be confusion about US-vs-Euro on this point. Enjoy!

Indeed, please let us know. Based on the thread linked below, if you have a wood finish on your steering wheel (which you probably do) then you should have buttons.

Makes no sense, MBUSA! No sense at all. I've written a snail mail letter to them, but have yet to get a response.

I've written M-B many a time on various questions regarding their vehicle specs and options, and most especially about their website. I don't think they respond to anything short of a note wrapped around a brick thrown through their North American headquarters. Rolls-Royce is far more helpful.

I'm glad to hear that your call will be here that soon, I only wish my '07 S600 would arrive that quickly. My car should be here in October.

If you haven't already seen, there's going to a live chat session with Rob Allen, the manager of something for AMG. It's tonight at like 6 or 7. More details at mercedes-amg.com/privatelounge.

You'l need to sign up to see it. All you need is a VIN from and AMG vehicle.

For those that are already members, here's the link with some details.

http://www.mercedes-amg.com/privatel...read.php?t=450

It starts in a half hour, if I'm not busy, I could ask Rob about the paddle shifters.

LOL, if you do sign up, see you there. I'm using a friend's account BTW. Taking the easy way in, and legit too!!

5 more minutes until they make the forum for us to chat in. Hope he knows the answer, he is the Product Manager after all.

If I read the posts right, no paddles, at least on the wood steering wheel.

You read them correctly. And, currently the only option MBUSA offers us is wood steering wheel! *sigh*

Got home too late to join the chat but I'm surprised no one really pushed the issue of "missing" paddles in the S65.
I find it ridiculous that in a almost $200k car you can't choose either when the rest of the World has that option.
At that price range customers are more demanding and look for more individual ways to suit their needs in a car they buy.
Price wise a competing car against Bentleys or Astons but with only a limited color selection is unacceptable to a lot of people in that price range.
I will definitely "bug" Mr Allen this Saturday....

I asked Rob about the paddles. But the answer I got wasn't really what we were looking for, I guess that my fault because I didn't ask if properly.

Oh well, let us know when you speak with him on Saturday.

He was very clear: no paddles on wood/leather steering wheels, and S65's only come with wood/leather (standard unheated or optional heated0 steering wheels. He heard that performance drivers prefer leather with paddles.

Missed this "chat"....but pls "bug" Mr. Allen to make sure CL63/65 have AMG leather sport steering wheel w/o the wood nonsense and w/paddles and a high-grade leather air bag cover (none of this rubber/plasticky-looking stuff lifted out of the S-Class diesel cabs from EU)...

Know at least 5 guys in Greenwich and SF getting both CL63/65 and 599 for daily commuter cars....and if MB bungles the steering wheel/paddles/leather finishes, I suspect these guys will not take deliv of their CL's and just go w/599 as the daily workhorse....after all, a CL63/65 costs roughly $50K (or more) in one-yr deprec cost....whereas, 599 costs $0.....no matter the mileage in either case....counter-intuitive oper costs, but those are the MB vs F economics in the US.....the all-important mkt where MB seeks to sell some 70% of global 65 produc and ?60%+ of global CL/S/SL63 produc......

IMO the buttons really are better than the paddles: they move with the steering wheel, and you can hit them with your thumbs instead of having to uncurl your fingers from the wheel and reach with your fingers to yank on the paddles --

I am NOT sure that this is a bad thing....

That is your preference, others may think otherwise.
In my case, having put a lot of miles in cars with different combos of buttons, paddles etc,I'm most comfortable with stationary paddles(always knowing where the"+" or "-" is),second option would be on the wheel or buttons in front, not hidden in the back.
