I read an article regarding the huge drop in quality that mercedes suffered after 95, apperently the higher ups decided to boost profit margins by either a 4th or a 3rd by cutting back on quality control, materials and engineering but after getting such a bad rep for quality mercedes reinstated the previous profit margin for the new models starting with the CLS and the new S Class

I will see if i can find that article again, it was an interesting read
