S600 vs Flying Spur why did you buy one or the other?

I am very close to getting a S600 or a Flying Spur both have been out for some time any S600 owners or Flying Spur owners that can ad some thoughts on why they went with the 600 or the Spur

Any input would be great, I have been struggling with this for some time, both have strong points, if I go with the spur I will buy is used so price of the spur could be a little less than the S600 with the S65 bodykit added.

Thanks,

Personally I would buy the Flying Spur hands down just for the exclusitivity factor. W221 bodies are becoming pretty common out here, but a Flying Spur will always stand out. Performance is comparable but but fit and finish is better. Just curious why you are not considering a Quattroporte?

I like the Quattroporte Executive GT but it is a little small, and seems to be missing something I think the S600 is a better car all around, I wish the Flying spur had the S600 engine in it, that would be perfect All wheel drive and 600 foot pounds of TQ

This morning - I raced a Flying spur on the FDR Drive onto York Avenue.... Got CREMATED - The driver is a friend of mine that lives in Mill basin - although I havent seen him in years!!!!

He nailed me mostly because I couldnt get traction at the redlights due to the slippery road conditions... he was WELL passed me even as i was just beginning to get traction.

Performance wise the Quattroporte is the winner IMO. Incredible suspension setup and a pretty fast engine. And the S600 engine albeit very smooth is only .3 sec faster to 60mph (not a huge gap) than the Bentley. Agreed the S600 is the best all around but it compromises itself in a few categories that are crucial in this class. The QP was my choice but as you put it its missing something, which IMO is the electronic gadgetry the others offer.
Nevertheless I think the Bentley is in a different realm... you can't buy "C class" Bentley for just about under $35k.

If you can wait, you might also want to consider the S63 which comes out next year.

Drive the CFS for a couple of hours, and then poke around inside it for another half-hour -- at that point you will either decide to take it, or not.

I had the opportunity to drive both the Continental GT and the Flying Spur last April at Manhattan Motorcars. I was expecting something more from the Bentley just because of its reputation. I think both cars are equally good, but if you want status, the Bentley is a completely different league. If you do go with an S600, I would highly recommend the designo packages, they certainly narrow the gap between the Mercedes and the Bentley in terms of interior appearance.

Btw, when we were in the Flying Spur we got lost in lower Manhattan and we tried to use the navi system. I'm not sure if I just didn't know how to use it properly or if it really sucked, but it didn't help at all. I would definately spend a while sitting with the Bentley's electronics before you get it, the new S is so easy to operate, especially with the great voice control.

For me decision was simple, better traction in Winter, better exclusivity and it was the car my wife wanted (her car anyway).
If it was to be my personal car I would choose S65 though...

My local dealer told me that they have had a half dozen Bentleys traded for new S600's (I've seen them in the used car showroom). I have driven the Continental GT and Flying Spur, and I personally find the S more comfortable and easier to drive.

I prefer the S65. However, the car could really do with AWD and is also priced massively higher than the 55 or 600. Makes a fantastic nearly-new buy.

As regards S600 vs FS, I prefer the looks and image of the 600.

Yeah, the FDR is terrible in mornings, actually all day. It's good at night though, but when driving fast you need to be careful (I know it inside-out) because there are a lot of pot-holes and bad bumps that can mess up your car up. I recently saw a SL55 that banged his exhuast pretty bad. But it's windy and curvy, like a race-track, that's why I love it; I love downshifting in the turns, hugging the inside lane; that's why I'm never on the West Side Highway!

He hE. That is true - but at 6:45am... it isnt as bad. But I totally know what you mean. I really REALLY hate NYC Taxi Cabs. They drive on the white line - so their vehicles are taking up 2 lanes- and they dont want anyone getting ahead. I guess that is their sick natural feeling that someone will capture the next paying fare so they block the lanes. They are scummy in their nature. However, when the opportunity rises, i pass them......

YOU ARE SO RIGHT! There is also a section i believe by 42nd street. If you enter at the 65th Street entrance, and travel in the right lane at ANY speeds faster than lets say 45mph........... there is a section where the road CURVES towards the right, and dips down and if you are moving quick - you will COMPLETELY lose control. There is not a car on the road that can handle that because it really uses gravity and motion to overcome even the best tires.
Potholls are TERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIBLE. Especially before the Brooklyn Bridge, right lane - for 1 mile up to the bridge. SICK! TOTALLY. For gods sake why cant they fix it.

AND ANOTHER THING!!!!!!!!!! WTF is going on with the Guwanus expressway.....Belt Parkway to the Battery Tunnel............ that long strip of road has been in construction for 3 years............ WHAT IS THE REASON??? Cant they finish the job already? Now - I take the HOV lane and if i am stopped - i present the badge and PBA cards and i am let through - however, i see eveyrone using the HOV and cutting over when they can. Seriously - I dont have a problem with ppl doing that because if the city cant take hold of these union workers and force them to finish their job ..... i no longer feel obliged to respect their rules.

I remember reading somewhere that the old-money Bentley owners, the Arnage & Azure crowd, consider the Continental and Flying Spur to be their "C-Class" - they really despise those cars. I guess they're opposed to the idea of a sub-$300k Bentley ... lol

Spur outguns ,outhandles, has more space, comfort, toys,is built as well as Arnage except does not feel like glamour F150.
Most Arnage owners buy them for status only, being a "car enthusiast" is left to the "lower classes".
Me? I like the S65...

I suppose it really is just a personal choice. I can't imagine spending $190K on an S65... Believe me..... BELIEVE ME... i am totally not a cheap guy - and I am not a practical guy either.... however when given the choice between an S65 and a Flying Spur....... it would be the Flying Spur all the way.

Same as if you gave me the choice between Maybach 57 vs RR Phantom - Id take the RR Phantom in a heartbeat!

At that price range we're only talking exclusivity in my opinion. S600 look alike a.k.a s550 are a dime a dozen now. There's no comparison in my book, but then again u will do what sits right with u.
