ages, arguments and badging

Wow, what a mess, everyone with differing opinions on this badging issue, i am just curious, i dont mind arguing with open minded intelligent people , people that do not call names, but rather state their opinion rationally, and with intellect and move on,clearly that is not always the case here... so i was just wondering before the next illogical argument insues, what are everyones ages, i am 41, i just want to know ahead of time if i am arguing with a 15 yr old, who thinks he knows something , or someone with the experiance and background knoledge that years of owning these cars produces. With that said everyones input is appreciated. thanks.

I'm 21. Like I stated three times now; only AMG cars come stock with AMG emblems from the Benz Factory. Meaning, it is a horrible look to throw an AMG badge on a car when it does not belong. And some non AMG cars come with AMG rims on the car from the factory, right? So that arguement is a case closed.

No one seemed to answer me.. How bout some new 5 series with a M emblem on the back.. Lots of people seem to think it's fine to have the AMG emblem on the non AMG car..() so I would assume you think it's cool for someone to have a 5 series with an M logo on the back.

I'm 35, and couldn't care less if someone put a Rolls Royce emblem on the back of their car. To each their own. I just think that some elitists tend to get their feathers ruffled a little too quickly.

The older you get, the less you care about the badging - that's my experience.

17, I don't care if an AMG emblem has been put onto a MB with AMG package. This is fine with me.

However, if you put AMG on a non-AMG package, lowest engine available, I won't care, I'll just laugh and (try to) smoke you on the streets.

Removing badges is the cool thing where these cars come from, not adding them. If it were up to me (there were no lease-end to worry about) I'd debadge my real AMGs. Half the fun of an S65 is surprising people, and nothing spoils the element of surprise like a big "V12 Biturbo" badge.

What's more, I feel this way now and I felt this way when I was much too young to afford one.

I'm 19, I don't care what people put on the back of their cars, more to the point I don't even care what people drive in the first place as if owning certain said brand or model of car or with badging the apperance of makes you more important or a better person.

I think as long as you keep the stock emblem on the back then its fine, for example "CLK500 AMG"

If you change the 500 to 55 then that is being a true poser. If you don't have an AMG bodykit/rims, etc then you shouldn't put the badge on. I find that all the AMG symbol on the back means is that the driver is an aggressive driver. I would put it on but I would feel embarrassed pulling up to a CLK55 and having him think I'm a poser. I'd rather leave the CLK500 badges and smoke the CLK55 and have him wondering what happened.

I also think the chrome AMG badge just looks good on the back of a Benz. Like I said, I'd put it on my car but there are people who would see me as someone who is trying to make an appearance of having something I can't afford. But I honestly think the AMG badge just looks nice and I don't find anything wrong with it, as long as you leave your other emblems and don't fool people into thinking you're driving a 55 or 63.

A week ago in NYC I saw an S430 that had S55 AMG on the back and he had quad tailpipes that were actually taped to and were hanging from the rear bumper. The guy had the small brakes, normal bumper, and 430 rims.

omg.. did it have a fugly air intake by the front fenders too on the side??/?

Some asian guy with a bad attitude (I have reason to call him a Dic*head)
likes to pretend his 2000 S430 is a 2003+ S55 AMG
Has 430 Wheels, has pre-facelift bumper, ... but he has V8 Kompressor on the side....

Here's how I see it:

If someone bought and is paying for his own car, he can do whatever he wants with it. It's his property, not yours.

If you want to tell someone who to badge or de-badge his car, you should be making his payments for him.

29, who really cares about emblems. IMHO I think they are just used to show off what you have. And for those that pose like they have something better . . . let them keep dreaming. I personally try to debadge everything. And yes when I finally do get a //M car or AMG I will do the same. I really dont see what all the fuss is about.

By the way, Jack, has Nevada done away with front plates or do you just proudly refuse to mar your car with one? I moved here from LV in 2000 and had a front plate at the time.

Nevada still has a front plate but it is probably the most unsued one in the US. There is a thing in the law that somebody posted that allows you to get around mounting it...something about no defined area on the from the manufacturer allowing it. I think the S550 qualifies since you would have to drill holes to do it...but there are many others who just don't bother.

BTW...I really do know what payments are...had them for years...:-)

Yes you were I beleive the OP was insulting you. My question to him is what does it matter how old you are when debating cars and their appearance??

Sooners, I didn't know that cars were such a serious topic that one needs life experience in order to give input. That is bs. Maybe if you want to debate marriage, or parenting, careers, age would be an important thing, but not the issue of "amg badges on cars."

Oh and for the record, AsianML, "the 15 year old who thinks he knows something" as you put it, seems to know more about Mercedes-Benz than many people multiple times his age.

If someone feels the need to re-badge their car, maybe it's to make up for "shortcomings" elsewhere . But I have to admit, I do enjoy pulling up next to the "poser" on the freeway, and then stomping on the gas and leaving him in the dust.

Personally, I see no need to them about it anyway. 99% of the people have no idea what an AMG really is, or why it's so cool in the first place. The 1% that do, can recognize a real one from a fake one in an instant, and just laugh as we pass by .

Well that's pretty cool. I dread the move to CA because I will have to drill holes in my precious S550 and destroy the looks of the car with a front plate ... it pains me to even think about it.....

Agreed...a front plate ruins the image. I don't think I could stand to drill holes and mount the plate...:-)

for me, i don't mind how people badge their cars. it's their car and they can do anything they want. i get a chuckle out of it though. the thing is who are they trying to impress? the people who know, laughs and the people who don't, won't care or know what it means. either way, you're not impressing anyone!
