LS430, GL450, SL550
Well, I just bought an SL550 for my wife (haven't taken delivery yet), so my question applies to that car as well. I'm thinking about trading my LS430 for an S550. But I already know that the MB nav system is nowhere near as nice as the Lexus nav system. I'm trying to find something good about it!

The DVD nav isn't the best in the world, but the new hard drive based nav on the 2007 S and CL Class seems great every time I've tried it. You can even enter destinations by voice.

Entering destinations while moving is the thing I really like with the Benz navigation. All other vehicles that I have had always had the nav locked while in motion.

NAV Not working well on NYC
I had problem entering address in NYC. Our address here alway have dash in between, like 35-11 35 st. ETC.. It will take U to different place if U just enter 35 35st. and U cant enter DASH like ML class. Unless there is different way to do it.

Hello cmjo;
It seems that Nissa/Infinity, and Toyota/Lexus are the ones that do not allow you to enter destinations in the NAV while driving from my experience.
BMW, Mercedes, Acura do not have the annoyance. I also use Garmin Handheld units, and they have the option to enable or disable what they call "Safe Mode" which will allow you to fully use the NAV while driving.

Hopefully, this updated COMAND navigation system is better than the one I experienced in the '04 SL500 I'd just traded.
The Lexus navigation system in our LX, other than the annoyance of not being able to input information while in motion even by the passenger, works very well indeed and we're quite pleased with it. The system in my A8L also works well, the MMI is a much better system than the iDrive but I have very high hopes for the COMAND in the S550 I have on order.

I can believe that the '04-'05 can be upgraded (I hadn't realized that the VCS improvements came in '06). But the '03 W220 is pre-MOST and the new unit couldn't be fitted.
