I'm selling my GL450 and getting and ML63 so that I can have those AMG seats. The GL is too big for me anyway.
Sorry to hear you didn't like the GL. I have heard lots of good things thus far about it. The seats were much more comfortable than the Denali and it is by far more quiet and smoother to drive. I also very much considered the ML63 AMG, but I wanted the 7 passenger thing and my dealer didn't have one for me to test drive.

I picked up my S600 Saturday and had to drive out of state to get it. We drove our GL450 and I must say that the comfort is exceptional. We do have the multi contour seats and grant it, they are not like the S600, but I find them extremely comfortable and I am sure you will like the GL.
By the way, I am not dissappointed in the S600, it is all and more of what I expected. A major improvement over the 2000 S500 that I recently sold. Comparable to an upgrade made years ago from an 88 S class to a 93 S class. That was a big difference. The upgrade to the 2000 S500 was noticeable, but not as drastic. The 07 S600 is amazing!

Congrats on the S600...you must be in heaven this week enjoying that wonderful machine.

Thanks for the driving report on the GL...nice to see a comparison with the S that is positive in the ride category. My test drive sure seemed to provide a good ride and quiet also.

Hope you get the 550 real soon...you will totally love it...a really great car.
In fact the car is so great he may want to keep it MOST of the model year...like you. Jack, there is no one on this forum that has been higher on the S series than you. When I got mine you told me that it would give me many years of trouble free enjoyment. In fact my car is not nearly as great as you have portrayed it...Good but not great. I suspect I will trade mine in a year or two. I can't imagine what factors in your life have changed so drastically since you bought the S 550...As I recall you took a lengthy trip in it on ordinary roads and enjoyed it immensely. Whatever! Get what you like. It's inconceivable to me that anyone who likes the S 550 as much as you say you do would trade in the same model year. Hope you don't mind me saying that your credibility is somewhat tarnished with me.

I never fail to be amazed at comments made on these forums.

Look...I love the S550 and all the enthusiasm I showed for it was genuine as is my opinion of how I truly enjoy the car. It remains the best MB I have ever owned.

I owned my E320 Sport less than 2 years, I owned my S430 6 months and I will have owned the S550 one year by the time I take delivery of the GL. What I do with my cars and how often I trade them is my business and has nothing to do with how excited or how much I like a particular vehicle. If you feel I have misled you by my pictures and narrative at times that is your problem not mine. You made your decision to buy the S Class and you are a big boy. The fact you do not agree with my assessment should not give you need to challenge my sincerity or my credibility.

Harsh, don't you think? NJ hasn't said he's disappointed in the S in any way. He just said he now has roads/places he needs to go where the S won't take him. Where any luxury sedan wouldn't take him. How does it impact the credibility of his opinion of the S?

On another note, I'm curious, what don't you like about your 600? You said it's good, not great. Any specific problems?

Nevada Jack, what do you think about....

Konigstiger's ever-increasing list of problems with the 221 cars? Did that have any influence on your decision to change from an "automobile" to a hauler? Have you thought about going to Vance to see the GL put together?
I think you can do a plant delivery again.

To address the plant pick-up...from my understanding there still is no factory delivery at Vance. A friend of mine in MS got his ML that way but his GL is being built on Thursday and he indicated there was no factory delivery.

On Dan's postings of "ever-increasing list of problems"...they had no influence on my decision to buy a "hauler" (your words... Many do not apply to my VIN and many were early build problems. Those that may apply are not critical and would be taken care of at my first service. I have had zero problems or complaints with the car. There is nothing in my decision at all that deals with anything related to the performance or ride of the S550 automobile. It is the finest vehicle in it's class and I will have enjoyed my 1 year of ownership come April.

I think GL is an excellent choice for SUV and I'm sure you'll be happy with your decision.
I was wondering if you even thought about looking at any other SUV besides the GL (like X5, LX or RR) or was this your only consideration?

Thanks.

I did look at some other options. I looked at the new X5 and discussed the features with a dealer...the style is still a negative with me. The RR has a great web site (MBUSA should go there and learn what a web site is all about)and I really was impressed...but again the style does nothing for me. I also think the interior design is dated. LX is not on my check list...:-) But the controlling factor was the diesel option...I wanted back into a diesel and the GL offered that in a really nice package. If the E wagon had a diesel option I would have considered that but not in the current model.

If my job gave me another 70k in salary I would get me a GL along with my S550. Enjoy the ride Jack and don't be a stranger to the S550 forum.

Thanks AK and I'll be around for another several months praising the 550.
