I dont think it needs more -

In past S Classes....the head airbags were split - so there may have been 4 head airbags, where as now - we have 2 Window Curtains which protects your head.

In any event, I dont think that its just Airbags that protect lives.... its the entire safety system working together that does that task.

Check this out!

I dont know. It could be an error...

This is taken from MBUSA.com

Integrated Restraint System Driver and front passenger are each provided with an adaptive dual-stage front air bag, a side-impact air bag, and a 3-point seat belt with an Emergency Tensioning Device (ETD) and belt force limiter.3 Second-row passengers are each provided with a 3-point seat belt with ETD, belt force limiter, and side-impact air bag.3

So that means:
2 FRONT
2 FRONT SIDE
2 REAR SIDE

Window Curtain Air Bags In a side impact exceeding a preset threshold, a multi-chamber air bag deploys along the front and rear side windows on the affected side of the car.3 The integrated rollover sensor automatically deploys the ETDs and, if deemed necessary, the Head Protection Curtains in the event of a detected rollover.3

So that means
2 Window Curtain Air Bags (1 on each side which goes across the entire side of the window and protects the head as well keep glass from coming inside)

What more do you want? I gave you the information Straight from MBUSA.com You are arguing with the specs and facts straight from the official source?

The W221 S Class has 8 Airbags - As Per MBUSA.COM which is the official Mercedes Site.

Period.

They're dealer written statements and I don't think they're even MB dealers at all.

8 is enough, IMO. The only ones I think they should have are knee airbags (if they already don't have them on the S-Class). IIRC, the Lexus RX350 has them.

I think even BMW 7 series has Knee Airbags.

But - S Class W221 has Presafe..... if there is a car crash - the seats are immediatly brought back away from the front of the car and the seatbelts automatically lock you in. You are therefore far away from the area your knees come in contact with. Maybe thats why they didnt include them. Duno though. Good question.

If you wanna be a pain, you can argue that there are more than that due to the division of a single bag into many smaller sections.
