Updated my 2007 command:Tons of new options!!
1) As reported by others, the radio sound does not mute during nav system announcements.
2) My car does not have an option to select a route based on traffic, I can select fastest route or shortest route. No option for using RDS data for routing (i.e. Dynamic Route)
3) Backup camera lost the parallel park option as reported by several others
4) DVD video displayed while stopped and while moving slowly. One of the dealer technicians said he was researching a software patch to enable the display while under full motion.
5) Birds-eye display works
6) Shows which lanes to drive in (both on speedometer and on nav display) when approaching a transition from one freeway to another
7) Being in Southern Calif, it shows lots of traffic data.
8) Sirius channel change button on steering wheel now uses my channel list rather than the entire channel list. Telephone keypad allows selection of a saved channel. If you press the * key, then you can enter the 3 digit channel number instead of the position in your saved channel list.
9) Slewing the display has become quite slow. (i.e. if I am in full screen NAV mode and I attempt to slew with the control wheel/joystick).
Does anyone have an answer to the first 2 items?
I had specifically requested that the use the 0231 version of the DVD. I called last week and had them special order it. The dealer called me yesterday and said they they had just received it so I had the update done today. (Later I found out that NAVTEQ had mistakenly shipped the DVD for 2006 S,SL,CLS and CL vehicles).
Unfortunately I discovered that they had used the 0225 version. At first, one of their service managers said that the 0231 version was not compatible with 2007 models, only 2008. The first manager said that they could damage my system if they installed this version. I asked them to show me the package so I could see what model years it applied to. I challenged this and they checked their inventory and they did not have the 0231. After talking to other service managers there, they finally admitted that 0231 is probably the correct version. I got them to agree in writing to replace the DVD with the 0231 version at no charge once they receive it. The dealer paperwork said they performed the work specified by DTB P-B-82.85/592d.
It took almost 4 hours to perform the telematics upgrade. Several of the past ones this dealer had performed took about an hour. This might be because my car was one of the first CL550s (manufactured in Sept 2006) and may have required a more extensive firmware upgrade.

Will update later when I get my car.

This is the manual for the 2008 CL and it shows ALL of the features provided by the upgrade. This should be identical for the S class since they have the same NAV system.
There was a posting earlier that pointed this out.

Very interesting. I'm sure what you're saying is correct. I bet my tech did it by accident and not by a recognized thought-out choice. I'm just going to leave it like it is as the only thing I'm putting in their at the moment are music DVDs (concerts like Earth, Wind, Fire, Chicago, Tower of Power, etc). I really don't care about movies that much. I eventually want to get up to the Chicago area and get the mod done at Mid city engineering where it will allow the front screen to show movies for the rest of the family to see. We don't travel enough to warrant putting them on each headrest (unless I get overruled).
I ordered and confirmed that I received the correct new DVD (231).
The dealer installed in in conformance with the DTB. He actually gave me a copy of the DTB. I put the DVD into slot 1 and the car confirmed that the data on the the DVD is already loaded in the car.
But I am not getting any of the new features.. no traffic, no 3D view. Haven't checked the DVD video yet.
Anyone have any ideas? Is there another system upgrade they missed?
Thanks.

Up to this point, everything you are experiencing is normal.

Purchase the navigation DVD then bring the vehicle in to service with the complaint that your navigation DVD will not load, mention the DTB, and the Telematics will be updated free. In addition, check with several dealerships to receive the lowest price on the navigation DVD.
I thought I would bump the above post to allow folks to quickly review the instructions.
Read the above. It should help your technician understand what's going on.
