I can't help but notice they are still hanging onto the W220 interior design instead of going with the W221 look. Of course, why should they change it when only a very few will be sold.

I think it looks hideous- they should have found a better way to stow that top.

I guess it's all about exclusivity. Not sure I'd want to motor around topless in the Dubai sun but guess it's a good way to separate rich from super rich.

IMHO, the W220 has a classier design which is what most Maybach buyers would want I assume. Anyway, it's really only the front that still resembles a W220. Only the driver would care, not the driven.

clearly people who get their hands on one of these probably already own (and are required to have) a Maybach currently...but given the price tag

I'd rather get myself a "plain old" 62s for less then one-third the price and still have money left over for an F430 spider or a Murcielago roadster...AND a RR drophead

Seems like ancient-tech stuff meant for 3rdWorld consumption....could be shrewd marketing move on part of MB, given it's an old-tech platform w/minimal R&D investment.....

Suspect its pattern of sales in US will be similar to that of Maybach....

Have examined/test-driven enough new Maybachs to find them to have laughable dynamics/tech/aesthetics/materials, even if cost is not a consideration....would much rather drive a new S65....

Trumpet, I suspect BevHillsHotel will prob have one of these to ferry VIP guests around BH once car is launched.....and at Aug PebbleBch auto shows Maybach will likely have a copy or two available for test-drives around PebbBch....

Just plan a quick wkend trip to BevHills or PebbBch around launch time....can easily get a test-drive, not just a ride....as a 600 owner, your dealer's referral to Maybach will ensure they keep you posted on timing of launch and test drives, etc

In all honesty, I have to agree fully, the W220 platform for the interior looks better for the Maybach.

The funny thing is that the Maybach is really built on the platform of the W140 but with a lot of W220 interior/exterior design cues and electronics.

And the Maybach was really the first car to have the clamshell trunklid, NOT the BMW 7-series like so many assume. When the W221 S-Class came out, everyone said it copied the BMW "Bangle" trunk, but in reality Daimler showed the Maybach with this design feature back in 1998.

^^^^ Thank you for that post. I'd been waiting on someone to state the truth of the matter.
