My only concern with the S63 bumper is the "oh he is a poser". Normally I don't care about what people say / think about me personally, but I know I am guilty of thinking this way about others. The turning point to this was when my neighbor (who is actually rich...which makes it worse) - took his 2001 S500 and changed the tail lights, the headlights, and the wheels to the MY2004 after the "facelift". However, the bumper remained pre-MY2003. He supposedly went around "showing off" his new Mercedes. Of course I kept my mouth shut because its none of my business, but if my brain could speak out loud...i'd be in trouble.

So you don't think putting an S63 bumper on the car would SORT OF make me a poser? (No rebadging, no wheel change, no rear apron change...just bumper/fender).

Poser does come to mind, how about looking into a Brabus front end or something of the sorts, the brabus attaches to the factory though, so depending on how screwed up yours is... make the choice, don't be a poser...

I guess maybe its mildly poser-ish but he isnt re-badging the car. I remember having a guy come in with a W220 S600 only to open the hood and find the S430 engine. thats poser...

Just get the replacement Sport bumper like you had before. Looks almost as aggressive/sleek so not much gain visually and it would be classier to keep the stock look in your line of work

Let's see if it can even be done. I know what you mean about the keeping it stock will be the classier thing to do. I am giving it a lot of thought.

I know I hate when I see a poser because it irks me to know that they are just not satisfied with what they purchased, and feel like they have to lie and "pose" in order to make others think they spent more...

It's a very sad concept to feel that you are somehow a more "substantial" person because of the car you drive, let alone the model and model number of the car....

Not a big fan of Brabus body kits - and I must keep the price region the same. Insurance is taking care of this - so I can't replace a $3000 AMG Bumper (whether I go with the 550 sport or 63/65 version) with a more expensive Brabus/Lorinser/Carlson bumper.

I also don't want to delay the car too much. I have a trip to Washington DC on Monday the 17th of March. It doesnt look like I will have my car back by then in any event, but would prefer not to push the completion date out further.

Need the car for work.

glad to hear you're ok. A good testament as to why it's nice to have an S class. As for the front bumper, why not get one of those cops' bumpers?
That would add class to your car.

Ooo doggie. That is a little worse than I originally thought. I doubt you're gonna get that back as quick as you hope for. I bet it takes 2 full weeks.
Man I'm sorry to see the outcome of that. I think I would push for a new car.

Hey There
Well - The truth is - I was told by my Service Advisor that the car really is perfectly fixable. It is not mechanically hurt. It is 90% Cosmetic - and 10% little things. The worst case scenario is that I will need a new radiator which I am told is not a big deal. Obviously the parking sensors need replacement. The ironic note is that I just had them replaced because the sensors broke. I believe I posted that in an earlier thread.

Had I damaged the engine, I'd have made the inquiry if the car could be considered "totaled" - I don't know how that really works since this is my first true accident.

Like I said, after the crash, I started her up and drove her onto the service road...so it wasn't that bad.

Truly, it just looks bad. It always tends to look worse than it is....

PS... It's still my baby...I am looking forward to getting her back in good clean shape - the same way a parent would want to see their child come home after breaking a leg and being put in a cast.

(and yes, I do know that human life is more valueable than automotive ownership!!! NO FLAMING)

=)

Good to hear. I couldn't help but notice how well the light housings stood up to the impact.

Looks mangled but purely superficial. Hope they get it fixed back up quick for you.

The police were wondering that too...

I hit the steps going up into the truck cabin - and also the front tire...

I'm told by my service advisor that it looks worse than it actually is... mainly cosmetic - with a few inner parts being replaced. Engine is fine though - thats

I think a car is totaled when the repair costs/damage costs are greater than the value of the car. I think it can also be totaled if it suffers frame damage to such an extent that it won't be as strong as before and compromise your safety (not sure about this one).

Can you go after diminished value for this? It's still a pretty new car and an accident with that much damage would make it worth less.

Good point.

Dimished Value.. I dont know - I could look into it - but I would want to keep this car for a good 4 - 5 years. I don't switch cars every other year. Since I purchased it - its a keeper.

Remmeber - I had the 02 S500 back in October 02 till July 06. About 4 years there... I would have kept it longer had the W221 not come out yet.

Hopefully you'll get her back soon.

If there are not structural damage, there's nothing to worry about I guess.

Chucky - Glad to hear you're OK (that's how they're designed). Realise that the cars are designed so that the components (subframes) give way - these are bolt-on components that are easily replaceable.

I don't think you would be posing, i just like the S63 bumper more than the standard AMG bumper and it's not as if you don't have the AMG kit. If i had the opportunity i would change.
