Suprise in the Mail

I checked the mail today and i had received a letter from Mercedes Benz of Laguna Niguel saying that i can bring my car back and trade it in for any new mercedes and not go up and down on my payments. I contacted them today and they insist that i drive down to the dealership because the deal is true. I live about an hour to an hour and a half away. What do you guys think, is it a real deal? If this is the case, i might just go for an e-class or possibly an sl.

I'd have to say that if all of the cars listed in your signature were all bought at that same dealership within the past 2 years, then they've made enough profit to give you that offer.
Hey, I can say this because I'm just as guilty.

Just the past 20 years:
1984 VW Rabbit
1989 Acura Legend
1992 Acura Legend
1995 Acura Legend
1990 Mercedes Benz 350 SDL
1995 Acura SLX
1996 Mercedes S420
1996 Chevy Van (hated it )
1985 Chevy stationwagon
1982 Chevy impala
: these two cars were bought just to trade off and hopefully make a buck or two.
1990 Chevy Pickup
1993 Chevy Pickup
1997 GMC van (loved it but it caught on fire)
1998 Acura RL (for me)
1998 Acura RL (for wife)
1994 S500 (used)
2000 S500
2002 E320
2002 CL500
2002 CLK 320 cab.
2000 Ford F150
1993 Nissan pickup
1998 Ford Ranger

2003 Chevy Trailblazer
2004 VW Phaeton W12
2004 Chevy Trailblazer
2006 MB CL500
2006 Lexus IS 250
2007 MB S600
2008 MB C350
2008 Ford SportTrac
2005 Ford F150

Earlier than 20 years ago:
1963 GMC chevy truck
1965 Chevy pickup
19XX? VW Beetle
19XX? VW Beetle
1975 Fiat stationwagon (hated it)

I guess I'm just a ***** when it comes to vehicles and this is not including 7 different motorcycles since 1998!
All in all, I've probably had my *** in or sitting on at least 2 million dollars worth of vehicles. Really a pitiful track record. Hey, I've had fun with it.

================================================== =======

Anyhow, back to the original question/topic, I hope it's a legit offer as you're lucky if it is. I hope it is not a trick in financing though. Like switching and baiting you with a lease term that is ridiculous or hiding the fact that you will have to put down $10K+ to make the original offer true. Regardless, good luck. Keep us informed.

On that same note, if that's not bad enough, today I test drove a 2006 SL 63 with 14K miles on it and a 2007 Maybach with only 6K miles on it. The SL63 is selling for $100K and the maybach is selling just under $195K. Get this, they both were turned in by the same owner!!! Talk about a LOSS! This guy just lost around $250K on two cars with barely 20,000 miles on the two cars combined

Its true. I got the same letter in the mail. Hell some cars, I forget which, are being discounted $25K. No other dealer has been able to match so far.

I wonder if it's a California thing. I notice you both live in the country of California.

I am a bit slow this morning...passover 2nite - dreading matzah is making me not think properly.

So let me get this straight, you can trade your CLK 350 $600/month? in for a 2008 SL550 $1300/month if you want? Same payments - just an even swap?
Meaning you are paying $600 a month for an SL550?

can't be, brad. makes no sense. there has to be a huge chunk of $ put down to maintain the same payment that the advert is not discussing. not to mention that tax impacts. ridiculous. but it might get some people into the dealership, which is their goal, to see shiny new showroom floor cars to stoke the fever once again.

The payments don't go up, they just go on longer.

Really this is just another gimmick to get you into the showroom so they can upsell you into more car.

To say ANY car is a strecth. But with MBF offering to pay-off 5 remaining lease payments on a wide variety of models, $3k conquest cash to move into an S class, and 1.9% financing on 10 different models, (3.9% on 15+) MBF is certainly stepping up and making it an easier financial decision.

I agree - however, let us see what happens with the letter 06CLK350 got.

It would be unfortunate if a Mercedes dealer would send out a very misleading letter just to get them into the showroom.

Will be interesting either way.

So the $600 payment may be the same per month - however instead of driving the car 36 months and paying 36 payments, they drive it for 36 months but pay 72 months worth?

Not sure I understand.

Thanks for all the thoughts. The dealer is not saying that i can replace my s550 for a sl550 and pay the same payments. They are saying that i can return my lease early and pretty much lease a new car. The sl550's are going for around 1000 a month currently so it isnt a bad deal. I just seem to not enjoy mercedes anymore and i do not want to get into an amg car because i have another sports car on the way. My clk350 lease is up in two months so i will obviously not consider this option on that car. As for the s550, i leased it for four years like an idiot. I have concluded that i am more of a bmw guy, but i willing to get another mercedes if i can get out of the s-class. I might even consider getting an e-class just to have one because another two door will only leave me with the range rover and i need another four door for my wife.

Chucky,

You drive the car longer too, but they send you another letter and another offer in 36 months.

My lease on my LE S550 is up in June and the only thing they sent me was a terrible offer to extend my lease for another year and only drop the payments by $45.00, ridiculous.

LOL. Who would want to extend a lease. I have never heard of the dealer sending you information to extend a lease. As far as my car, i have decided to keep it. The only cars i am interested in are either the g55, cls63, or the sl55 but then i do not want to add more payments considering that i have enough cars. The sl is getting a facelift so it is not worth it, the cls63 is a crazy car but i heard that it should be getting a facelift soon. As for the g55, that is my favorite car i will make sure that i replace my range rover in the future withe either a white on black or black on black g55.

I will buy your Range Rover when you are ready. Not looking to pay full retail of course but looking to pay a few grand more than the dealer will give. I've been watching them on ebay. Ideally to buy one in Jan 09 or sooner if the right deal says buy me now. Let me know when you are ready to buy your G wagon.

Well, if i decide to get rid of the range rover early, i will have someone take over my lease. I have two other brothers and we all are partners in our real estate projects therefore we ended up leasing three range rover sc. I am only paying 1600 a month for that car, which i think is a good deal because i have never heard anyone pay anything near that. I was the lucky one by getting it black on ivory (ivory is a pain in the a$$ to keep), my brothers got white on black and the grey on grey.

Its a waste of time. We had an appointment to go today...so we went and when it says you can get 1.9 % its only for the E-Classes and the R-Classes. My dealer, MB of South Bay sent it to me. But anyways we went in and for S-Classes, its a waste of time. To upgrade out 2007 S550 for an 08, our payment was gonna go up 500 dollars. Its just a scam to get you into the dealership. The sucky part for me is that my dealer, South Bay, is over 50 miles from where I live and we went all the way over there...so I wouldnt recommend going in. Btw, get this. The ONLY way to lower my payment was to trade in my S550 for an E350 or R350...talk about a waste of my day but whatever. This letter is

Edit: Our letter said "We want your 2006 S-CLASS," but on the phone they said since our 07 S550 only has 8500 miles, they said bring it in. But im not sure if you guys received the same letter.
