Very very annoying "don't forget key" chime
Is there a way to disable/remove/kill this chime. If so, does anyone know how to? I asked my local dealer here in Las Vegas...Fletcher Jones....and they say you can't disable it.
I own a 2007 S600.
Thanks for any constructive help!

So maybe the '07's chime too and people complained about it enough that they changed the '08's.
Does your '08 not chime even when u have your key in the vicinity of the car?
Thanks,
Dave

Curious - I have no chime in my 2008 either. Just the "Don't forget your key" warning in the dash... This is when I have the key in my pocket and am using keyless go...

I have a 2007 S600 as well and mine does not chime. I think this was one of the early build quirks they got rid of within the first US models. As far as getting rid of the chime, I can assure you somebody down the pike in the MB computer world knows how to change a code to get rid of this chime. It probably is a single integer that needs changing. Don't know for sure , but I would bet it can be removed.
Does anyone know of an aftermarket onboard computer diagnostic software that can be used on these cars using ones laptop?

Yes, I was at the dealer the other day and opened the door of an S65 and without the key nearby it only flashed the message "don't forget your key" with no chime.
So maybe the '07's chime too and people complained about it enough that they changed the '08's.

We have the same problem. The early builds had this and they got rid of it several months in, probably the same time they got rid of the trunk hump.
I have tried 2 dealers and they both couldn't figure it out. Please keep us posted.

This is the best news I've heard since I got the car. I'm scheduling my service apt now. Thanks!

Great news! Is there any specific info about what version software on your receipt?
I'll probably take it to Fletcher Jones Newport Beach. Maybe they can call their Vegas shop and find out how. lol.

Nothing specific, just get the latest instrument cluster s/w update. The tech said it took almost 45 minutes for the update.

Finally had time to drop off for service. The service adviser was resistive to fixing the issue saying that some dealers will mess with the factory settings for the software but he didn't know if they were able to. I had mentioned the successfull results at Vegas dealer and offered to show him the print out from this thread. He said he didn't care to see it and there were a lot of jokers on the internet and some people were fabricating service bulletens and fixes. I found that statement a little annoying. He did say he would do what he could do. Wasn't too happy with the pessimism from the advisor on the fix. He has a couple days as I'm having a few other things fixed. I will report results. I do have two other dealers within about 20 miles of my residence. I do prefer this dealer as it is inland and less busy.

no jokers here
Vonbeeler, as you can see from these threads, these S class owners are a pretty savvy group who know what they are talking about. Your service guy owes us all an apology and should check out this forum for some lessons.
