Resetting Tire Pressure Sensors
Hello All,
Quick question. I have changed my wheels. The new ones came with tire pressure sensors. Does anyone know how can I reset the system so that those are recognized? Is it something that I can do myself or do I need to take my car to the dealership?
Thanks in advance!!

Most owners do not know it is (the manual I mean). ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
TPMS is reset from the instrument cluster menu. You have to learn it because that should be done after every tyre pressure change!
New sensors may need more than a simple reset, you may need to drive a longish trip at decent speed too.

When I go to "Tire Pressure" menu, it gives me the following message:
"Tire Pressure Monitor Unavailable No Wheel Sensor"
The shop that I purchased the wheels from says that wheels came with original wheel sensors and that the sensors are there. Is it possible that wheel sensors are there and COMAND is giving a wrong message? Any thoughts?
BTW - These are original 20" AMG wheels.
Thanks in advance!!

no tpms
it sounds like no tpms in there -- i would doublecheck because you shouldnt need to do anything to reset them -- u just drive for a bit and they should reset themselves -- when i changed my wheel that is all i had to do

I'm puzzled though if this is good, if the tyres are leaking a bit, doesn't the system adapt to the pressure loss gradually?

Perhaps this car just needs some driving around to let the car recognise those new sensors and their positions. I hope they did not put Beru sensors as the W221 is using Siemens sensors (like all new MBs). Also they should be with US frequency (315 MHz I believe against 433 MHz in Europe). Funny that the user guide says "usually".

If you correct the tyre pressure or replace the wheels, the tyre pressure monitor will usually register this automatically. After driving for a few minutes, the pressure loss warning threshold will be adapted to the new tyre pressure automatically. A tyre pressure warning will then be deleted automatically.

if it say it doesnt find one, or it doesnt read it.. the tire guy's prob. didnt put it back on.. because i work at the benz dealer here in LA and.. we get cars comming in saying that, and they take it to a shop and the shop doesnt put it back in.. so they have to pay like 300-400 each sensor...

There are different frequency for the TPMS based on the year and model of your mbz. they very could have installed TPMS's however they could be wrong. I have seen 315mhz, to 433mhz.

The two options are 315 MHz or 433 MHz. 433 MHz is for Europe, odd if 433 was sold in the US but I believe someone from Canada reported wrong frequency for the sensors even if they too should have 315 MHz, might not be impossible then. I would first check that some sensors are installed (perhaps first check that the valves are for TPMS, that can be seen without taking the tyre off.

Can you please elaborate on one point you mentioned above? How can I see if valves are for TPMS? Is there any distinguishing characteristic?
Thanks in advance!!

The TPMS valve has a nut at the outside of the wheel keeping it in place. Of course the sensors could still be missing even if the wheels had TPMS valves (my tyre shop did that once).

WE've taken the 433 out of two ML63' and one CL600. I wonder where the original destination was.
