Distronic Plus Sensors vs. Parktronic Sensors

Hello All,

One quick question. Which sensors does Distronic Plus use? Is it just the radar sensor behind the front grille that it uses? Or, does it also use the sensors in the front bumper?

Thanks in advance!!

Distronic uses the radar behind the front grille. The sensors in the bumper don't exist with Distronic.

Thanks for your reply. I have S600 2007. There are two sensors inside of the front bumper. They are not visible from the outside. They are hidden. So, I am just wondering if those hidden sensors are at all used by Distronic Plus. Or, are those for Parktronic?

Thanks again!!

Normal parktronic interferes with Distronic plus. So they invented a newer system of parktronic for Distronic equipped cars.

I'm afraid we had multiple posts with some minor mistakes. Distronic Plus has four radar sensors hidden to the front bumper. These four are used to reach the Parktronic function (called Park Assist). Two of these sensors are also used to detect objects at short range by Distronic Plus (like bringing the car to stop).

So, the car does have sensors at the bumpers even if those are not visible (not ultrasound based but radar based, this is why they can be hidden).

And there are four radar sensors at the front, in addition to the main one behind the grill. The four operate at a different frequency too.

The rear bumper has two of these short range radars.

There are countries that do not allow the bumper radars because of their operating frequency. You may then see a mixture too, Distronic (without Plus) combined with the traditional Parktronic. The option codes for all are different of course.

Great, Diesel Benz.

Thanks again for your response and clarifying this.

Funny...now when I look at any car....even otherwise superb, quite commendable cars like SL63 030/599/Scud/997TT, etc, one of first things I notice (and am nauseated by) are the archaic, '90s-tech Parktronic bulletholes....

Our S/CLs simply make any other car on planet seem 10yrs behind in tech, even upon a quick glance at exterior styling....let alone real-world perf/safety....

even the flying spur has those parking sensor bumps. Distronic is the best bang for the buck MB has ever offered. Also it is the only option that went down in price for 08 and up in features (park assist and blindspot assist)

Also, keeping in mind the passive safety enhancements, is this is a no brainer option for anyone considering a S. At under 3K it is a drop in the bucket.
