I decided to write mbusa.com regarding my endavour of changing out the exhaust... Here is their response..
Dear XXXX
Thank you for your additional email.
After a bit more research I can confirm the following information:
-The list price is $2600.00
-We have a technical (fee-based) website that is available to the public:
www.startekinfo.com.
- On this site, in the section for model 221 171, in group 49 there are
more specifics available about your Parts inquiry.
- I cannot verify availability or what the actual price will be.
-It is recommended that you provide document # A249.10-P-001SX to the
Parts Manager when you follow-up with the dealership Parts Manager as this
should be enough to get these two questions answered.
We hope you find this information helpful.

ahmadkshuja,
Lets see if you can help me out here: I guess you know what my car looks like - 2008 S550 w/AMG sports pak. Like irieblue I too want to get the quad exhaust look - the 4 tail pipes instead of the 2. I'm thinking that all I need to do is either get 2 more tail pipes to "add on" or just get 4 new ones however they might be packaged. .....
Here's the issue - I've talked to both MB dealerships in Austin and each one seems to be as puzzled (read: cluleless, unhelpful, lazy, etc.) as the next one! Unbelievable. At any rate, looks like I might need to help them do their job. One SA tells me that the WHOLE muffler/exhaust is ONE piece and that I'll need to replace the whole exhaust + muffler system all the way to the middle of the car! The other guy tells me that I "probably" only need to replace the exahust tips (tail pipes)....... Both tell me that I will need to "probably" replace the whole back bumper - not just the black cut out that attaches around the tail pipes (and under the main bumper assembly). Since your car is black (like mine), why did you need to replace the whole rear bumper and not just the cut-out/molding that fits around the tail pipes?
All this now has me thinking about getting an S63! Seriously.

I looked underneath a couple S63's to see how the rear portion of the exhaust is arranged compared to my S550 and it seems like it is just the rear exhaust with the dual exhaust pipes on each side. I also spoke to the body work shop that does the body work for my local benz dealer.
They came up with the following part numbers to install the Quad exhaust on MY07 S550.
Part # Description
221 490 90 21 Right rear Exhaust
221 490 87 21 Left Rear Exhaust
221 885 01 25 9999 Rear Lower bumper cover (this is supposedly the black cutout for the Quad exhaust).
I haven't tried www.startekinfo.com to see if this all pans out, as I have been busy with other stuff.
I am not interested in switching to an S63 just yet, and will wait to see what happens with the S63 for MY2010
The quote with labor and parts is $3300.

S500 LWB ( W221 ) - CL63 Biturbo ( W216 ) CL 55 Kompressor ( W215 Sold ) C43 AMG ( W202 Sold )
Those part No's are totally different to the MB part No's in the MB catalogue .
AMG Rear Silencer Oval 4 Pipe : B6 603 2015
Rear Apron : B6 603 6201/02
I am also interested in having the Quad exhausts on my 500L which has the AMG kit.

Now, coming to you question on exhaust system, attached below is the picture of exhausts that I purchased. It does not go to the middle of the car; it is only about 25 to 30 inches in length. The exhaust and muffler assembly fits perfectly on S600.
Regarding your comments on S63, I had the same dilemma. You will not like S63 after S600. If you can afford, go for S65 instead. Just my 2 cents. Let me know if you have any further questions.

I am also putting AMG-package on my S500 (with four tail pipes). My dealer says part number B66032015 should fit my car (normal wheel base) , but they are still waiting confirmation from Germany. My dealer said those pipes have AMG mufflers too, right? If everything goes as planned I should have everything installed end of the month. I keep you up to date with the progress!

My experience with MB is that they would not work on anything that is considered non-standard (compared to what they have in their catalog of things that they do) . Although, MB does provide official AMG accessories for the customers to make appropriate additions to their respective cars, MBUSA does not offer those as standard set of services . I guess to keep the cost of providing services low.

Now let me go show the MB tech how such issues are solved on the internet (as opposed to a MB dealership)
