Hello,
I have a 2006 A8. I need to get a new car and am considering the s550 4matic.
Can I get a confirmation that a few key features are available in the s550 ?
- ride height adjustment / suspension settings ? Can I just dial in a higher ride setting if I am on a bumpy/dirt road ? While driving ?
- TPMS - can I see my tire pressures/temps while driving ?
In addition, one of the failings of the a8 are the seating and leather/interior options ... so I am wondering:
- are there additional seating options for an s550 - that is, if i want the _most adjustable_, most ridiculous seats that Mercedes makes (as many adjustments, and as large of adjustments as possible) can I order them with an s550 ? Or is what I see on the s550s at my dealer what I get ?
- are there upgraded leather/interior packages available with an s550 ? I saw a brand new c63 amg the other day and it obviously had some special ordered leather/seating surfaces, etc. ... I forget what the name on the tag attached to the seats headrest was ... but it was _beautiful_. Can I get such upgraded surfaces/additional leather/leather covered dashboard/etc. on an s550 ?

To completely upgrade interior with leather dash,etc,etc everywhere leather and alcantra (suede like) headliner go with designo pkg. Same as 600 interior. You can raise ride height to certain speed. I've never checked my tire pressure while driving or looked for that but I believe at least the pressure could be monitored on one of the menus. I dont think tire temp is avail.

Ride height can be raised via switch and is a standard feature. Yes you can check tire pressure anytime through the dash. Tire temp no.
There are numerous seating options ...best thing is to go to mbusa.com and look at all the available features

What about the seat functions, though ?
If I go to my dealer and look at a fully loaded S550 4matic, w/AMG package, are the seats that are in that car the best (in terms of adjustments / adjustability) seats that I can get in an S-class ?
Or is there some super-extra-adjustable-seating option ?

The drive dynamic seats in the S are one of THE most comfortable (if not the most) seats of any vehicle. And a happy ending would be nice - seens to be the only missing item

Two final clarifications:
- does the s550, by default, have a leather covered dashboard ?
- I have built a few configurations on the website for a s550 4matic, but do not find any options for designo anywhere. In fact, I don't see it mentioned anywhere on the site and cannot find any trace of it ... are they still doing designo ?

The S 550 blows away the Audi. However, by your questions it sounds like you need an S 600! Full leather dash w/ stitching etc.

The problem is, I absolutely need AWD/4WD and there is no 4matic offered on any model other than the base s550, unfortunately.
That is why I am looking into how plush I can make an s550

distronic +: If you are going to get multicontour seats, they have tremendous safety benefits when coupled with distronic +. When the car senses a crash it inflates bolsters in those seats to prepare for a safe impact.
4 way seating pkg: The 4 way seating package gives you 8 way adjustable out bound rear seats that are heated and cooled.
As for designo, it is very pricy but worth it in terms of what you get on the interior. Your colour choices are limited to three pallets though.

If I may change topics slightly, I wonder if anyone can comment on the compact flash drive functionality in the car (which I am very happy to see).
Can I just take a 64 GB CF card organized in the directory structure of my choosing and stick it in and go ? Or are there special formatting and organizational (ie. directory structure) considerations ?
WAV files ok ? I prefer to play lossless wav files than mp3s...
And finally, does it understand .m3u playlist files ?
