I was wondering the same today when I noticed the model appearing at EPC. I don't know how long it typically takes after it appears on EPC, I would actually assume it would typically become available first and only then appear at EPC. At least many parts for new W221 features have appeared late on EPC.

I am still hoping that a diesel S will appear in the US. I know the S420 CDI is too good to be true though.

Hard to imagine an S420 in the USA. In Europe, this car is 2.500 euros more expensive than the S550 and it is not available with 4WD. Maybe on of the V6 diesel engines will make it.

I would gladly pay a $3750 price premium for the S420CDI over the S500/550, and so would most people who drive it.

It has the most torque of any 8-cylinder model, including the S63 AMG, almost as much as the S600, giving it fantastic driving dynamics.

It has significantly better fuel economy than any gasoline model.

IMO, all things considered, it is by far the best S-class available. I only wish there would be a CL420 CDI.

Mercedes will most likely cancel their V8 diesel in the next few years. A new more powerful and less thirsty diesel V6 with 280-300hp will take its place, or so rumor has it.

I can't see a S-Class diesel in the U.S. again, hybrid is the route to go at the top of the range. Diesel for the C, E, and SUVs IMO.

How can they build a car unless they have the WIS and EPC ?

If it is in EPC it means that the car parts were ordered 6 months ago and that the cars are to be built any time soon.

I don't think they read the same EPC or WIS at Sindelfingen at the factory line as I'm reading. The example we had here some time ago was about the new mirrors for the blind spot assist feature. The feature had been on delivered cars already some time when the related parts slowly appeared one by one on EPC.

I would consider it a risk of confidential info flowing to the public and specifically competitors if EPC was consistently showing all parts for a new vehicle 6 months before it is released. Are we going to see the W212 parts within the next few days?
