First post! Any differences between the 2009 S550 and the 2008 S550?
My dealer is offering me the following deal on a new 2008 S550 (non-4MATIC):
Leather Steering Wheel
P2 Package
AMG Sport Package
$79,999
...which sounds like a decent deal. But I was wondering if there were any differences (exterior or interior) between the 2009 and 2008 models of the S550?
Thank you.

You can do better. I bought an 08 S550 a ten days ago with AMG, Ipod, wood steering wheel and package 3 for $78.5K.
There are a few small upgrades with the 2009. Better power window switches and the non AMG models have a different wheel design.

Yup, I forgot about the mileage question. I was the guy who raised that and stumped the group. No one seemed to know if the 09 has a +1 highway EPA rating because the same powertrain was retested or there is some improvement to the 09 that's driving the improvement. I've gotten much better than the 14/21 number in the first 600 miles of driving on my 08.

Thanks everyone for the great info!
Neil: Is that $78.5k after all taxes/fees/destination charge, etc.?
s600ed: Does the 2009 come with the blindspot assist standard or something? Or are you just saying because it's such a huge car...
Also make sure the 2008 has the blindspot assist (triangle on the mirror)

Don,
The $78.5K was before sales tax/title and license fees. In CA the tax rate is 8.25%, so that alone is about $6K.
To get blind spot assistence you'll need to get the distronic plus package which is about $3K. I wanted that very much, but the only car I could find with that option was Capri Blue which wasn't for me.

Blindspot assist is part of the distronic package which I believe went down to about 2k MSRP on the 2009 models. On early to mid 2008 cars it was not available in the package so some 08 did not have it.

$22k sounds about right for the maximum discount on a 2008 S550. Im sure there are a few still around, just might have to compromise on your color/interior combination and packages.

P3 Package
AMG Sport Package
Distronic Plus Package
Wooden Leather Steering Wheel

What do you guys think? It sounds terrific. Or can I do even better?

My local dealer here in San Jose still has 6 2008 S550's he's trying to move. I went in last week to pick up an extra set of floor mats (part of the deal) and he indicated he'd give the same deal to anyone interested. They just want to get rid of the left-over 2008's. I've checked the dealers website online inventory tool a few times over the last two weeks and they've only sold one S550 during that time. PM me if you'd like the contact details. At almost $10K less than the East Coast pricing your getting it would be well worth the shipping bill to buy West and ship East.

I'm trying to get a '08 S550 for $78,300 (msrp $98,300) which another dealer has on Craigslist. Testing the waters, but will surely buy if the dealer's seriously trying to get rid of them.

Pulled the trigger today for '08 S550 4Matic AMG pkg for $83K. Dealer loaded the car up to $115K which I did not care for. Got tired of haggling, but they seem to be willing to budge each time I said NO. I also realize that in 5 weeks the 08's will depreciate $20K. Oh well...

You paid $83k on a car with MSRP of $115k? wow.. that's $32k discount. A sign of tough times indeed. If you keep it for say 5 years, the $20k depreciation next year isn't too bad? I'll just think that I bought a used 08 S550 4matic except this one has almost zero miles. ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Maybe it's a good time to buy a car from the USA...

Loaded Leftover '08 S550 4Matic (MSRP $115K) for $83K...
Amgnsx996tt: Congratulations on your new purchase. I am just curious to know all of the specific options the dealer ordered on this '08 S550 4Matic which added up to an MSRP of $115K! Does it have a Designo package which I know adds quite a bit to the list price? Love to see photos of your car when you get a chance to post them. Personally, I love all of the options offered on the S and CL class and would have ended up ordering a 'loaded' car. That is one of the reasons I finally chose to buy a '07 CL600 since all available options (except for choice of wheels) are standard on the new (post '07) 600 models. Z356
