for those of you with kids....
well i am proud to say that i am officially a father of two and now must look for a new car ....i don't like suv's very much and am really thinking of getting a s550 or possibly 63..here is my deal....i have a 3 year old and a new born my wife will need to sit in the back seat with the new born since her head kinda flops in her new car seat since she is so cute and small, my questions is since i will have 2 car seats in the rear will there be enough room for a person to sit in the middle ?
your thoughts would be great.
thanks in advance.

But if one of the kids is really small, I would not use a seat but a specific "bed with walls" intended for small babies, with a net on top.

Wow. And just think, my parents let me crawl all around the hat rack up against the back window of a '66 Chevrolet Impala going 70 mph down the freeway with windows down when I was 3 and 4 years old !!! Times have changed haven't they ???(for the good of course).
Since the OP said he didn't want an SUV, that rules out the GL , which I love!
Never driven one but I like them 10:1 to the M class.
Anyway, I think there would be room for a person in the middle as long as that person isn't large. But even then, it will get uncomfortable after a while.

Gonna be tight back there with 2 car seats. These things take up a lot of room and what's left in the middle is not much. I would consider it a 2 seater once two full size car seats are installed in the rear seat. I think this will be the case in any sedan. Whats left in bewteen is fine for very short trips. Looks like you shoudl consider an SUV - a GL drives better than any SUV I have ever driven.

Here we go, my thughts/questions :
#1. Duration of the trip
#2. Size of the person in the middle
#3. Lenght of lease/purchase of this vehicle, before you dump it.
#4. Most important - do you really love your wife
Get the GL
If in doubt ... You sit in the middle and let her drive

We have four kids, 3,4,7 & 9
My daily driver is an 07' S550
My wife drives an 09' GL550
My "fun" car is a 20078 AM V8 Vantage Roadster
and when we have to go to the airport or long trip its the 05' Honda Odyseey
This is the combo we comprised on and it works!

I agree with s600ed. I have power rear seats (without memory) and I've got about 30cm (give or take a few) between the two seats.... sitting in the middle is dead uncomfortable since you've got the sides of the two power seats digging into your ***.....Go with a GL, there is PlentY room for the wife and kids in the back! Best of luck!
