Amazing - after 3 years the dolts finally get it!
....and believe it or not the S-Class gets a Recommended check mark! Even more amazing so do the M, E, SL, SLK, and C Classes.... (It was no MB's last year, nada) The reliability survey states that "..the resurgence of MB reliability remains the big news out of Europe..." No I am not on drugs... they have actually updated their review only 3 years after the w221 hit these shores... there are no obsolete comments about w220 reliability being bad in 2001... No markdown because the window switches are not recessed.. (AH HA... That must be what did it for 2009) Just an almost solid column of red discs...
Of course they have to find something to criticize in the capsule summary... "The S-Class is a super comfortable and agile luxury sedan. It also has a center knob control system that is frustrating but easier to use than BMW's iDrive. An optional night-vision system works well but can be distracting. The S550 is quick, quiet, luxurious, and a delight to drive. Acceleration from the 5.5 litre V8 is effortless. The cushy ride is extremely comfortable and among the best we've tested, yet handling, steering, and ride control are also 1st class. The vast cabin is luxurious and comfortable, and very quiet."
The S-Class gets a Road Test Score of 86...
Of course God's chariot (the Lexus 460) is given a Road Test Score of 99...

Yes - they are still dolts...

I have similar negative views re: competence of auto journalists generally, incl the UK magazines....so many of the reviews are biased infomercials, as one often discovers after doing own test drive
Suspect Net forums are increasingly making journalist reviews irrelevant/obsolete....far more real-world driving and reliability datapoints and perspectives are found on forums, as detailed by owners spending own money on cars....and whose paychecks are likely not dependent upon ad revenue from mfrs whose cars are being reviewed

Out with the biased auto journalists (especially in the US) who have their shows sponsored by auto companies (conflict of interest, much!?) and in with citizen journalism in blogs and forums!
It's a shame that we couldn't have a web-bot of auto forums where the collective conscious of real owners of all makes and models could be assimilated and compiled to give a true bird -dog report on which vehicles are the best.
I'm sure we , as MB forum posters, would be reporting on the best car in the world and would trigger a "buy signal".
