i think we all need to relax on this whole depreciation-off-the-cliff scenario and getting only $25,000 for 221 body style trade. your are talking extremes here. if you look at the post a few notches up that discusses "high, low, average" for auction prices and mileage and do a little analytical review, i think you'll see that the wholesale prices at $36,000 are for a car with over 100,000 miles on it. who wants a car with 100,000 miles on it? even if you can have it for a song? likewise, the low mileage car at 8,000 is wholesaling for $63,000. add $10k for dealer markup or so and you're back to a more respectable $73,000 for a two year old car. we all know the depreciation curves are steep in the first few years of ownership; it's a known 'cost' for buying new. but for those that think they can get a 221 for $50,000 today; you probably can. i suspect it will be very high mileage and in fairly rough condition. pay your money, take your choice.
Here in SoCal, for mid 70s, you can get a NEW 08 S550. Used S550 go from low 50s to mid 60s, most have 20K-40K mile, and good chunk came with AMG package. Saw a 07 S550 with 65K mile, AMG package, price on sticker ? $47K mile, and I'm sure gone are the day you have to pay sticker. FWIW, my neighbor just picked up a NEW 08 911, $30K off MSRP !!!. There're lunatic who list their 2 years old 911 for 30K off compared to new price too, but chance is, they can keep listing it for fantasy price, and the car would never sell.
And if one ever bother to drive 4 hours to Vegas, it's even worse there. All of those laid-off floor manager at big casino dump their W221 as consignment cars at local dealer, lot at rock bottom price, and it's unlikely to get better.
Check your calendar again !!!
Here you go, a 15K 07 S550 for mid 50s, asking price.

S550V4 - 2009 Black on Black Loaded ! 06-M5-Silver/black ! 08-LX570 (Silver - Best SUV ever !)
09 S500V4 - All Options except AMG body styling
Sticker was $109K and change
got it for $101 + tax, title - came back to $109K - They gave me a trade in value of 17K for my 04-S500V4 black on black - decided to sell it my self to a friend or keep it in the family (just had 51K miles on it - anyways !!)
Love it so far - the new blind-spot radar is awesome - love the new driver seats that make sure you are still inside the car when you take sharp turns ! - no reason to complain so far so good
I was thinking of installing a K40 radar but will research before I jump on it - heard it interferes with the distronic plus ??
Also, thinking of a rear entertainment system (Yes, this ones for wife and kids - I am still enjoying my M5) - any suggestions for the RES would be much appreciated.
Cheers and Happy Holiday !

09 GL550, 08 S550 4MATIC w/sport package
I finally pulled the triggger and just picked up a Flint Grey on Black 08 4Matic w/sport, wood/leather wheel and P1 for 25k off MSRP. Thank you to everyone on this fabulous forum for all of your insight during my long search. You are the reason that I was able to get the car and the deal that I did. It's very comforting to know that my wife will now be driving one of the safest cars on the road. Thank you again, David

davids3,
congrats on the pickup. I am with you when you say this forum is the reason for knowledge of the deals available on these fantastic vehicles! enjoy in great health!
to my other fellow posters,
i called a local mb dealer today, and talked with him about 2008 s classes. he told me their are 2 brand new ones in the nation that fit my color and option combos. He told me the MSRP on the vehicle was 111,160$. Where should i shoot for. I asked him whats the best he can do for me, and he said 96k. I think he can do better.
My point is, what should i offer? i was thinking 83k. insight?
thanks take care

I just picked up my iridium silver/grey 2008 S550 4matic with sport package, P2, etc. last week and got $15K off sticker. I thought I had done pretty well until I read about David3 getting $25K off.
One advantage to the one I purchased was that it was still at the port and only had 17 miles when I picked it up. I didn't want a vehicle that had been sitting at a dealer's lot being test driven, etc., with hundreds of miles.

i followed up with the same dealer today. I talked to him about that same vehicle, and as soon as i said i know these vehicles are going for 25-30k off msrp, he said that is not going to occur. He said we are probably going to look @ low to mid 90s for this vehicle. And it is loaded! p3, amg, rear seat package, all the good stuff. Im not so sure if 30k off msrp is so concrete fact. I am also speaking to another dealer today so we will see what happens.
Thanks my friend!

Hi All, new here to the forum. Just picked up my 2007 S550 with brand new amg wheels and new tires (no amg kit) with P2. Also came with nightvision and dynamic rear view monitor. Black color exterior with the black interior. Wife would not budge of the color combo and it became harder and harder to find in Houston and the surrounding areas after October of this year. The dealer agreed to certified (CPO) it so got warranty for an extra 12 months with up to 100,000 miles, which ever comes first. They tried to charged me for CPO but I wouldn't budge on the walk-out price. Haggled down to $56,173 to get the walk out price with tax,, title and license for $60k. Car was a lease that was just turned in with 22k miles on it.
I'm seeing $49k to $52k with less options on none-dark colors like silver but through private sellers or non-mercedes dealers. Good price but we wanted the extended warranty plus financing was cheaper for established dealers by 1 to 2 points.
