OP, since you have very specific color and option needs, if you want a 2008 you are going to need a bit of luck and possibly need to pay more than you were hoping.

It was for me! Add that to the idea that I didn't want to spend nearly $100k on a year old depreciated car. And I was able to order exactly the colors and options that I wanted. If saving money was my primary motivation, I wouldn't be driving a Mercedes!

I'm with you on this one.
Old saying - You get what you paid for. To the point.
Exact colors and options people want, usually cost few extra bucks.
Some are willing to forget what they really want and be happy but to some, lack of them is a big source of annoyance.
Sorry but I could never drive a used car.

That wasn't my point. If you can find something you want that meets your needs for tens of thousands off sticker, my point was there are few changes to an 09 to make that the deciding factor. With that said, if you have specific options or colors and can't find an 08 with those, then I understand getting an 09.

That's what I meant by missing the point as well.

This is not a right or wrong issue, personally, I get everything I wanted on the cars I bought and a few extras not asked for. There was no settling there. I was able to get them for a lot less than new, saved about 35K collectively between the 2 I bought and slightly used was fine for me.

Preference.

BTW - For that matter, many that can buy cars straight cash new still look for deals.

Funny - when I'm looking at the market right now, I think you can actually accomplish both. I don't think that burning money brings you into a Mercedes in the first place - unless you're a politician..

This is true. We all like to save money. But, to me, owning a leftover 08, with whatever options/colors it came with, was not worth the savings of 10-12k.

Trust me. I got your point :-) But to some, just having an 09, is worth having over an 08. And to others havng a leftover 08 is worth the savings.

well, i got '07 S550 with P2 & P3 & Distronic Plus package, bluetooth, and ipod integration kit for $53K after taxes. it has 22K miles on it. Is that a good deal?

drpasteur, I believe you got a great deal. You don't see too many S550s equipped as well as yours regardless of price. On top of that, you got it for a super good price. Congrats! You will love the S550 and you will love the Distronic Plus.

Having traded my 07 SL550 for an 09 S550, I would say that your friend's co worker actually downgraded. ;-)
