Unrealistic Dealers pricing S550's
I am searching for the best possible deal on a new or lightly used S550 4Matic. One dealer with my color preference lists about $84K for a loaded 2008 with 13,000 miles. Yes, he was willing to come down to $74K, but they refused what I thought was a good offer of $70K.
Am I crazy? Or is he?
I am looking for a loaded vehicle in great shape and in this market, I am looking for a really good deal. I am sure the insurance adjuster will give peanuts for my lightly used 5 year old E500 that the truck totaled.

Gellie, I have read your opinion on previous threads. But, I have done some homework. You have NOT substantiated your findings of $30K off new 2008's. To be honest, I do not believe that there are decent new 2008s with decent options and decent colors for anywhere near that! I did find a new one without hardly any options- No keyless Go, No heated seats- for low $70s, but that's about it.
Gellie, If you can find me a new 2008 S5504Matic in Iridium Silver with Dark interior well optioned, P3 or at least P2 with Distronic Plus, for $30K off, then I will give you $1000 in finder fees!!!
Prefer safety of a new, '09 car from a well-reputed dealer (most of which rarely offer lowest price new cars vs less well-reputed dealers)....less unknowns re: prior abuse/repaired damage, etc; fresh, new tires/brakes, etc; lemon law protec, etc
Suspect cost of leasing a new, '09 S550 to one's spec is not materially more costly than wasting endless hours investigating new/used cars at dealers/pvt owners in sometimes distant locales....time is far more valuable than money to most S-Class buyers (as is one's health, part of rationale for driving a supposedly costly new S-Class)....in life, price often does not reflect value when one properly values time, health/safety, hassles and other factors

I have no idea about the US pricing but just wanted to say that your offer above to pay $1000 for the guy to find the car you want at the price he claims they are selling.
A pity we have to ask for back up but that is the outcome when so many post their incorrect views as facts, either intentionally or unintentionally.
I hope you find the car you are after, you deserve it.
emagni, please pm with info on the vehicle Black 2007, although that is not my color preference.
Thanks to all for their replies.

absolutely , its probably a kid trying to buy a Merc on a Corolla budget.
C'mon man grow up.
Used s550 with 13k miles for $70k is not good at all!
Just reading the NY times in the nyc area, they have brand new S550's MSRP for $95k selling for $75k
i saw a new S63 for $106k!!

Oh, BTW if you pick this up I charge no fee unless you want to send the 1,000 for GP to me.

With some flexibility I think you can find a great deal on a new '08 as opposed to buying a used one as the price differential isn't that great. My local dealer was actually quite helpful in locating, you may want to try the same approach. Good luck!
More importantly, glad you and the family are OK. No question an MB is worth the price....

Now for the s550 4matic that you are looking for, does it have to be an 08 or can it be an 09? You can get a better deal on the 08, but check if they have upgraded anything in the 09s. Also, it is going to be difficult for you to find the exact color and options you are looking for because towards this time, the left overs tend to be vaguely optioned.
S550 30Kmi $68k
09 S550 with 215mi ends in 17 hours
Outside of that, hit the dealer again...

Has something changed?
Stupid in my opinion, I would like to be able to manually control this, but this was a global change to MBs.
