2007 S550 Engine Oil Dipstick?

I looked in my owner's manual and it shows a picture of the engine and an arrow pointing to something red on the left front side of the engine that I just cannot find. I then thought to try the S600 procedure for checking the oil but that does not appear to be an option on the S550.

In short, can anybody tell me how to check the oil on an S550?

The dipstick should be at the front fight of the engine. The right side of the engine is to your left if you look at the car from the front, perhaps you were already looking at the correct side.

It should be reasonably visible with the red cap (did you find the figure from the user manual showing the actual location of the dipstick?).

Sounds like I was looking at the correct side of the engine. Yes, I looked at the owner's manual and saw the picture. It occurred to me that it might simply be missing, so i looked around for the dipstick tube, but could not find that either. Are there any S550s out there without a dipstick tube?

Could someone please post a picture of the dipstick and dipstick tube on the 5.5L engine?

On my 4matic the dipstick is at the rear of the engine on the passenger's side. I believe the dipstick on mine is blue. My owner's manual gives two locations for the dipstick depending on whether it is a 4 matic.

Thank you, apparently I wasn't looking closely enough at the owner's manual

Missing dipstick case

And you found it. Too soon...
You took all the fun away from faithful watchers.

So... where was it ?

(I found mine in the trunk.)

My 600 does not have a real dipstick. It has a handle and a nub about 3" long (where the stick normally is) and that's all. I asked about this and they said that since it has an oil level sensor which displays on the dash info center, there is no real old fashioned dipstick. From what I gathered , the whole thing is electronically indicated. Can anyone verify that?

That is correct (the IC thing, I don't know about the dipstick but if appears obvious from your post that it does not have one, like my W211 does not). Actually the smaller engines must have an oil level sensor too because they are able to warn about too low oil level. For some reason they just removed the IC menu while the real dipstick was reintroduced for these engines. A pity because at least on my car the dipstick is difficult to read.

Thank you. Just had the same issue. the 2007 Owners Manual does not say anything about it being somewhere else as a 4matic and there was not a red dipstick in the front of the engine on the passenger side where they showed it would be. I assumed the blue dipstick in the back of the engine was a transmission dipstick but it is the oil.

I bought this dipstick for my S600

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-En...72.m2749.l2649

But it has a ton of numbers on it... like 20 - 180 with ten increments. What the heck is the correct # for oil?

That's a transmission fluid dipstick.
