egauster,
Can you give us specific info on what you refer to as "ebay taillights"(ie a model number, seller id, or anything that would allow accurate identification of the product you installed). Did you do the install yourself? What happens if any of the light element(bulb's or LED's) fail, do you buy replacements from MB or ??

Yours look great in the pixs,
RGS

Can't remember the seller but just do a search on eBay and you will find a selection. Same thing different sellers. As with the stock unit, LEDs are not replaceable individually, but they have an extremely long lifespan and should not need replacing. The unit (as the oem does) has a regular bulb for the rear fog which is replaceable ... Many have done the tails DIY but I had my installer do it for me. Although, I believe these are manufactured in Asia, they seem very high quality OEM copies and best of all they are designed specifically as 07-09 retrofits. Plug and play!

i did the crosswire method for the new LED tail lights since programming the new 2010 SAM at the dealer would not take. I did the cross wire and the light perfectly but the rear left and right errors are remain. Is a reflash in order? Thx

I have the 2007 S550 also. I recieved my LED taillights from fishcake321. Had them installed and got multiple dash errors. Also, only the reverse lights, left blinker and rear fog works. I contacted fishcake321, and he said he would send me a LED resistor with instructions. He also stated that the 2007 S550 has to have the resistor in order for them to work properly. Did you already have the resistor on your lights? Or did you have to put in on them?

#cg_msg_content DIV {MARGIN:0px;}If you or the installer can do it, we will be sending 2 black LED resistor as shown in the photo.

And what needs to be done is show in photos by the step. You have two ways to do it. Soldering or use tap splice.

FIRST WAY - Soldering:
Step 1. what you have received.
Step 2. un-plug the white plastic plug from the tail light
Step 3. cut off the white plastic plug tip and ready to solder to fuse the wires together.
Step 4. LEFT side should have BLACK to WHITE and RED to GRAY, if you solder the wires together and use heat shrink tube to shrink wrap once the soldering is done.
Step 5. Push in the new Black Resistor that we are supplying
Step 6. RIGHT side should have BLACK to GRAY and RED to WHITE, if you solder the wires together and use heat shrink tube to shrink wrap once the soldering is done.

SECOND WAY - Use tap splice, no soldering, this way is easier, but also less secure as sometimes the wires might get loose then it will loose the electrical contact, then lose the connection:
Step 1. what you have received.
Step 2. un-plug the white plastic plug from the tail light
Step 3. Use tap splices to connect as Step 4 and 6 for left and right sides following this simple instruction http://www.speedstersource.com/FISH/INSTALL_AE.htm

Let me know if you have any question, thanks.

Regards,

Simon

Dear fishcake321,

Error message: Tail lamp, brake lamp, right substitute bulb on.

On the left light, only reverse, blinker, and very top bulb (not led) is working. On right light, only reverse and very top bulb (not led) is working. None of the LED for the top or bottom rows are working, and only the left blinker works.

I understand your policy states that I have 3 business days upon receiving the item to contact you if item has been damaged during shipping or isn?t what described in your ad. Today is 22 Dec 2010; I received the item 21 Dec 2010. The ad states that I would have no error lights on instrument panel upon professional installation. Also, it states that all LEDs would work properly with no modifications. There is a very good chance that these lamps where damaged during shipping. All I know is they are not working at all like your ad described. I would like to talk to a customer service representative to get more information on where I need to return this item. Thank You...

Dear skkons4,

May I ask what kind of issue you have?

Did you encounter error saying rear side marker, left, right..etc and the top half LED is blinking?

Regards,

Simon

These tailights are not working properly. I went to a professional bodyshop to have installed. The dashboard has taillamp inop light, and they don't light properly. I paid a lot of money for this product. I'll return in same box tomorrow...

Is your S550 a 2008-2009 model? I was told by fishcake321 from ebay that the plug and play only works for 2008 or later, and 2007 models require the resistor. Im just trying to insure that Im getting the right information from him. (read my threads, and you will understand why Im askin) Thanks in advance...

I have a 2007. My tail lights were more expensive so maybe a different product?? Mine were 499...
I didn't see any resisters or anything extra. Perhaps they were built in?
Anyway, they were plug and play, no error and work fine with all functions.

Thanks Egauster, I contacted the seller "expresspart" via email and phone. I understand this is a completely different company than where I purchased from. They explained that it truly is plug and play. And if it don't work, they would pay for shipping and handling to be returned. If the lights I have don't work, I'm definitely going with them.

Great! Sorry I couldn't find the seller name before. Ebay takes off the details after 90 days, but I found it through my feedback link... good luck!

Im struggling with the ebay seller fishcake also. Ordered them the first time a month ago, but before he sent them told me there was a issue with 2007 model and it would be a month, so he refunded me and I waited.

I just got the 'new' fixed model, and it doesnt work. Some pins were pushed in, and the lights dont light up as they should. Only the very top row on right side and bottom 2 rows on left side.

Its very odd, and very confusing.

Hey Eric,

He is suggesting I try a modification to get it working first. If that doesnt work, Il do that.

Could you do me a favor? Can you tell me how the rear lights are supposed to look during normal operation?

What I mean is, there is 2 modes, I believe:
When you are driving with your lights off, are all 3 rows lit?
When you are driving with your lights on, are all 3 rows lit?

Thumbs up

Just got my car back from the body shop with new LED tail lights installed. They are perfect. Worked just like expressparts said they would. Simply plug and play. I see no difference between mine and the 2010-2011 OEM. Wish I would've went with this vendor before. Now, just waiting for refund from fishcake321.....

Glad to hear that. Even though my W221 (2008) is gone now, I do want to chime in and say that the LED tail lights I had ordered were from "expresspart" from Ebay. It took me less than an hour to install them and they worked perfectly. No error messages. I paid ~599 plus shipping and handling for those a few months ago.

I was also communicating with "fishcake" but he didn't have the parts in stock albeit they were half the price listed by expresspart. I am just glad I didn't have to go the fishcake route.

Just my 0.02 cents.

I only paid $420.00 for the lights. The price has gone down since you purchased from them..

I see red and smoke and red and clear formats available. Is one preferred or more common? Both "legal", I presume? What's the lure/value/draw of the smoke one? Thanks.

The smoke part is just for the reverse light? The smoke out part on the lights look to be light,so I don't think it makes any difference. If I were to get them lights,I would get the clear version, and add a tint film myself. That way if I ever get tired of the look,I can always remove the film and put it back to clear(oem).

I ordered mine today from exprespart on ebay.

Is there a difference between 2011 and these from expresspart ??? And do all the lights per the OEM, turn signals etc. work

Once they get here, is it hard to swap out the lights ???

Has anyone done it themselves ??? If yes, how hard is it for a person with 2 left thumbs ???

It's very easy. It took me less than an hour.
