Question Questions on 2010 s400 hybrid

Hi,

Some questions on the 2010 s400:

1. Is this model a limited production? I read another thread somewhere some dealer posted one of their allocations and he made it sound like the car's a limited production- hard to get model. i think it was a white color sedan

2. Is the shifter in the new s400 a column shifter, paddles or a floor shifter or a combination of a couple? I didn't see a shifter in the center console, only some type of a circular knob.

3. If the shifter is a floor ****er, is the semi-manual "+" and "-" shift gate rocks side to side or front to back? I never liked MB's side to side gate.

Thanks in advance.

This has nothing to do with the Hybrid part of your question, but I saw a new hybrid on eBay today with distronic yet the bumpers have the bullet holes in them. Has that got something to do with the lane departure feature, or the drowsy driver alert thing? Or has there been something else added that continues to require bumper sensors? This particular car had parking assistance.... so does it have something to do with that?

1. I'm not positive, but I don't think it will be a limited production model. There probably won't be as many hybrid variants as there will be V8/12s.

2. It's the same column shifter found in the 2007-2009 S-Classes. It does have paddle shifters on the back on the steering wheel though.
The circular knob was the controller for the COMAND system (radio, navi, phone, etc).

+1 It is also a bit shorter than the regular S550 or S600. I was actually considering the Hybrid till i saw the 3.5 liter/295 hp engine... I used to own an 2006 S350 back in the days and there was no way i was gonna fall for a baby S-class once again.

I believe the S400 is the same length as the other S-class models. The short wheel base is not offered in the US at all.

yes, parktronic = "bullet holes" in bumper

I suspect the discounts available on the 2010 S400 will not be as much as on a 2010 S550.

i.e. if you config the S400 and a S550, very well equipped, I suspect the difference in price will be < $3k if that, which wouldn't make getting the S400 worthwhile.

I anticipate the whole "hybrid hype" will make the S400 seem like some sort of fashion statement a la Prius, and will result in not as much % off as the S550.

Yes, but when a vehicle is equipped with Distronic Plus, it still has Parktronic, but there are no bullet holes. It just uses the Distronic radars, which is strange why the S400 Trumpet's seen had both.

But my 07 has parktronic with no bullet holes so I don't think that is the reason for the bullet holes. Seems like someone answered this question for me a few weeks ago but I can't remember what this person said.
And another thing, what happened to the technology MB was supposed to come out with where sensors could detect the flaws in the road ahead, pretightening the suspension for a bump or dip in the road? Is that being held back for the next gen S class? 2013 model.

That's my point and I am also noticing the same thing in the new E classes. They too have bullet holes despite the distronic plus.

I know the new 7 uses a new very fast communications system (FlexRay or something) that allows the rear suspension to adjust to anything the front suspension feels by the time the rear wheels go over the same part of the road.

I remember seeing pictures a while back of a mildly camouflaged W221 with altered headlights and a slightly altered bumper which was rumored to be testing the Pre-Scan suspension you guys were talking about - but I do remember reading it was for the next gen S, not the current ones.
I'll try to see if I can find anything regarding Distronic and the bullet holes.
EDIT: The new Distronic grille has gotten smaller too. I wonder if that has anything to do with it...
