Honestly.. did you buy your S for status or love?

As to the original question, status or love?
How about love of status ?
Lets just look at one example:
"...I could not care less about status. The car stood out as far as I was concerned, and I bought the car, and for cash by the way. ( 6th MB.)..."
That is pure gold.
Not only is this gent letting us know that he "paid cash" but also that this is his "6th" benz... But yet just a few syllables earlier he states clearly that - he could care less about status...
I am just not too sure what the boasting is about if its not the status that he is searching for from us

Nothing wrong with status. No need to deny it here chaps. I think we are all doing pretty well. Feel free to tell us about it. Success is good.

I agree! But still, some people don't have to buy cars for status
You guys ever run into someone that you say, hey nice car. The guy responds with ya its an S (or what ever ) class, it has that thing that makes the car go up and down. They sound like _____ ( insert you choice of insult) lol.
Also who doesn't appreciate a little status for our hard earned money?
I miss the torque!
I'm watching S65 prices.

We had several BMW x5's for the wife for the kids and then after the 2nd x5 lease was up. She wanted a more comfortable ride.
We went to the car show in miami and sat in a R350. It had everything we wanted in regards to function including status - ha ha ha . . . . .We were looking for a SUV that would give you the ability to actually use the 3rd row WITHOUT removing the car / booster seats in the second row. The R class has an option of having captain seats vs a bench for the second row. So we got one, added 22" amg style wheels and DVD's for the kids. GREAT car. We hardly used the 3rd row and she was at the dealership waiting for a typical service and sat in the S. The saleman told her that the S is very sim. in size to the R regarding the back seats. We need the room between the back of the front seats because of the carpool requirements for the kids (6 and 3yr old). Within a within a week, we put the R on leasetrader and we had 11 months left on the lease. R went in a week and we started to look for a car.
I also wanted a car that we could buy and drive it for a while. We have been in and out of leases and always have an issue with the miles at the end of the lease. So we wanted a car that does not change its style ever couple of years.
We looked at the Jag XJ8L and the BMW 750Li. But once we drove the s, well that is all it took. We transferred the DVD's and added 20" wheels. love the car. It is truely an amazing car.
Call it class, call it appeal.
I can't tell you'll how many people out of the blue have complemented me on the car.
I also am totally infatuated with the AMG cars - love the sound, torque and styling.
Then I saw four others in my sleepy Connecticut town of Woodbury (pop. 9650). Now, it is no longer a status symbol. Solution: CL600. ;P But honestly, I liked the design and it was a return to "presence" that the W220 lacked but that the W140 had.

S-Classes are great cars, sometimes I miss that "S-ness" of my 220, although I like my E much better all around. I always toy with the idea of getting into a W221, as I love them, but don't see a big enough plus (for me and what my life demands out of a car) from what I have now to justify the extra dough. Who knows what the future holds though.
I parked next to a Silver AMG Packaged S550 tonight.... Man I love seeing the two together. The W221 really comes alive in the right light, when the shadows play with the lines in the way they were really intended, shows off a very sculpted, yet still graceful design.
Plus, the ride, features, and handling I like much better than the RR.
Status isn't an issue. With the money I have invested in my restored '67 Vette, I could have bought something flashy like a Ferrari or Lambo. I just wanted a big safe car for my family.
