Thanks. The CL is slightly more abrupt than the S550. The S550 with less Hp and 2 more gears is more svelte (?) and relaxed than the CL. I have to be a little more careful with CL to acheive the same level of driving smoothness.

Yes, good eye. I live in San Francisco's waterfront financial district where I only have room for one car (see picture below). I also work in NYC/East Coast so I keep cars in Woodbury, CT where I have a little more space. Hence, the photos with trees in the background. Living in the heart of San Francisco where most residences are in condo buildings you rarely have parking spaces to safely fit bigger cars, i.e., my S550 or 600 SWB (see attached pic). And ironically enough I never drive to work (I put on approximately 6,500 miles a year on all 5 cars...combined).

Nice stable, but it's alllll about that '72 600 and 993 Turbo for me. Thanks for including the pics of those.

Weird question, but considering they're basically the same car, 35 year apart from each other (although the 600 during its time was really akin to todays top of the line Maybach in reality), how do you feel when driving the S550 in comparison to the '72 600?

I'm addicted to this "Top Gear" episode:

Clarkson's own 600 VS a Corniche. I can watch this Video and drool over and over.

Thanks K-A and marcopolo. While the 600 is still a great car to drive today it lacks the smoothness of today's W221s. The S550 is about the latest technology...the 600 is paying homage to what was cutting edge over four and a half decades ago. But like the new S-class it must have been well received back in 1963 when it was first introduced at the Paris autoshow, which was the same year as the original 911 intro at the Frankfurt show.

Nice. Yeah the 600 was the worlds most expensive car during its years.
I'm sure the S550 just takes what it did.... and ups it with its added 30-40 years of engineering experience and enhancements.
I love classic M-B's. I've been searching for a nice '71 280SE 3.5 Cabrio lately, not sure if I have the "*****" to put up with the up-keep though.

As my mechanic puts it when he calls me each month, "Time to feed the beast." In greenbacks, that is. The 3.5 is truly a classic and will appreciate significantly over time.
