I am an avid fan of sports pkg. traded my 08 non sports for a 08 sports pkg, both brand new. diff front driving lights, mesh screen bumper, better looking rear bumper skirt and chrome exhaust. of totally nicer 19' amg rims. side skirts.
now looking at the 2010 there is not much diff. same driving lights and rear exhaust. slight front bumper diff and rear black apron. wheels R 19' amg, but looks similar at first glance to the 5 spoke non spoke model. Is it still worth spending extra 5K for sports model or rather save that money and put some nicer 20' rims instead.

Ofcourse I was thinking of trading up to a 2010 model, but now I am confused. I actually like my 2008 shape a little bit better than the 2010.

Subjective choice; any new, '10 S550/E550 (or even C300) is a better-engineered, more technically advanced car than 99+% of new cars in world, incl nearly all $100+K cars

IMO, AMG-look packs merely advertise cash-poor poseurs who don't understand perf braking/chassis/driving dynamics, etc anyway

If short of cash, I'd drive '10 E550 (or C300) until could afford '10 (or whatever new MY) S65 or 600...but to each his own

And since this thread was opened specifically to read (for the umteenth time) about how only driving an S65 (or S600 that supposedly has "puny" brakes but somehow still allowed on the road) can satisfy one's enormous sense of insecurity, thank you so much for sharing!

If one is looking for a sports car, they should buy a sports car. If you're buying a 5,000 lbs luxury sedan, don't kid yourself.

I gave up arguing with that dope.

With the 07-09, I think the sports package is a must. On the 2010, I'd prefer it, but could live without it.

A C300 is better-engineered and more technically advanced than nearly all $100+K cars? I've never seen "brand loyalty" like this....

Too many WOT runs in the CL65 for you, the G's from that torque are knocking brain-cells.

wow u went from 08 non sports to 08 sports, how much money did u lose just to do that

and i reckon u would lose a crap load more if u went to a 10.
we just got a 2010. with 19s, i liek the 20s better, they ar the s63 wheels, but for our needs 19 was enuf, i just wish it was th same design as the 20s

I am curious as to what about the 2010 has changed so significantly that you have changed from "must" to "prefer"? I like the front and rear LED's on the FL 2010 but still think the ground effects of the sports package esthetically complete the car. Is there something I am missing?

It's a matter of personal preference. While I did feel that the front fog lights on the '07-'09 AMG package did look more appealing than the standard, I absolutely hated the side skirts. The bigger rims is also not my preference. For the '10 model, neither was a concern anymore.

Well, after seeing a few, I might recant that statement, but I think the new standard wheels are much better than in the pre-facelift.

I have an 07 Sport so I'm biased, but I've always liked the AMG front fascias and the exposed exhaust. Side skirts are so-so but I think it looks better than base. But must say for 2010 the differences are much less noticeable at first glance.
