Is it worth to get 2007 S550 W221 with 65-70K miles for mid $30K

Guys, I am finding lots of 2007 S550 W221 in mid $30K with mileage of 65-70K. Is it worth to go for that high miles W221? Are W221 more reliable then W220? What kind of problems I can run into if I buy 2007 S550 for $35K with 66K miles on it? Do you need to have some kind of back up or aftermarket car warranty?

Here are some pricing from Riverside Dealer Auction.

I think it's like a lottery. You may buy this car and drive it happily for 5-6 years with no major problems or you may buy it and to have one electronic problem next day that will cost $1K-$2K easy. And then another problem with air suspension will cost another $1K-$2K....
You can check carfax and dealer service records - that's the best you can do. If you buy it from the auction - buy it from MB Financial service line ( or other leasing bank ) on a green light. Take good mechanic to see the car before you bet.
Good luck.

it's easy to get excited about the Manheim auctions (Riverside Highline), but some of the lower end cars you see there are 1.0 ratings (damage, cosmetic or body repairs, interior in sad shape, highly used cars). Also, they are probably non-sport with limited features. Now the thing you also need to consider when you are looking at auction results is you can't tell which lane the cars were sold in. Best cars would be MB Financial lease returns, with quality rating of 3.0-5.0. Worst cars would be the lemon law sales from MB of USA in bad shape 1.0-2.0. I would budget for low 40k if I wanted a decent car at the Riverside Highline auction. An extended warranty is a must - GE or Western General are good. Get a service advisor at a dealer that will be your friend and will do the following for you:

(a) work with adjusters at the warranty company so you don't spend on repairs
(b) apply bulletins at will for your car, because it will have some important ones

Im looking for the same car and same miles. I agree with cl55 most of these
cars have problems. Its either the car has paint work or mechanical problem. You also have to remember that you have no warrenty. Your not not likely to find a fully serviced car so You would have to put money into it after you buy itfor service. Im trying to find a car that has factory warrenty that if any problem I have I can take to the dealer after I buy it even if it has 2-3 months left its a big plus.

Realistically speaking - it's very easy to find a car with existing warranty. Most cars on Manheim auction still have factory warranty on them. The car should be less than 4 years old and less than 50K miles.
Most 2007 cars ( actually bought at 2006 ) are less than 4 years old and it's easy to find less than 50K miles car , so you will have factory warranty for 6-8 months.

Can you extended original Warranty

Is it possible if I buy 2007 S550 with less then 50K miles, say 48K miles and then go to MB to extended original 50K warranty to 100K even though I am not the original owner?

The problem is I am looking for amg package and 4matic. I just cant picture myself 27 in a S550 without a sports package. The car has to be mint with original paint. Im also looking for 4matic for better handling in the snow. Also is it better to buy 2008 and what are the differences? I found some beutiful 08 s550 with both 4matic, AMG, p2 or p3, 15-20k miles for 60K but its a little 2 much since im selling my 2003 G500 on autotrader for 30K with extended factory warrenty.

Yes, but before you buy this car you gotta make sure this car is eligible for extended warranty from MB. The best way to figure it out just go to your local MB and make connection with the guy, which you going to call from auction, give him VIN#, he's gonna put it in MB service computer and tell you yes or no. I had the same question and my guy from MB told me to do it that way. Their service records and Carfax service records sometimes diferent and, if car had, for example, transmission failure and transmission was replaced even at MB service center - they may have restrictions on this car for extended warranty. Just go to MB and talk to them first
