2007 S550
Service "B" - $549

I have service B due on my 2007 S550 due in about 400 miles. I called up the dealer I bought the car from and it's $549 for service B. When I asked what it entails, it's basically just an oil change along with "check this" and "check that".

Is it worth it to pay that much for the dealer to do it or should I just take it to a shop that works on nice cars?

Thanks

Tell me about it! I thought it would be $300-400 which I would have scheduled. But when she said it was $549 I felt like I was getting taken so I wanted to check it out first.

At a high quality independent or dealer that is not out of line. Service B should be air filters (plural) and cabin filter, oil service (lots of oil - and its expensive Mobil 1) the oil filter (not cheap by any measure) and associated checks (and annuals like brake fluid etc). Plus a run through with the computer (via a very expensive MB diagnostic tool) looking for fault codes etc. Not to mention a service stamp in your maintenance book that could help resale value. I think its $500 well spent.

once in 2 years money well spent. get your ride a thorough chk. ofcourse u can also chk ala carte menu and see if makes a big diff on price. instead of service A my service advisor suggested doing an oil change only. 120 instead of 229.

Mine cost the same, but mine also included new windshield wipers, brake flush, and replacing the cabin air filters.

Anaheim Mercedes in Southern California cost for "A" service is $129.95 and for "B" is $229.95 until December 31, 2009 with coupon. Many dealers will match prices.

So I just had the service done on Monday and ended up paying $650 for it even with a 10% discount he gave me. He charged me $129 extra to change the brake fluid. And it doesn't look like he even replaced the wipers. Are the wipers changed and brake fluid replaced free in the service B? I asked what was done and it was an oil change and brake fluid change and a full car inspection.

Good, the car will thank you for it.

BTW... I cant imagine why they would replace your wiper blades or change your brake fluid for free but its good you did the maintenance instead of deferring it. Deferred maintenance on a car like this is pointless.

Charging $549 is not exactly "free" in my book. It's a lot of money just for an oil change, if they're not going to do anything else. Charging for replacing brake fluid separately while it should be a part of Service B is totally shady:

Replacing wiper blades is not included in Service B, but it's an operation that should cost significantly less than $129.

wiper blades at sams is around $40. basically u r only paying for the product, service is free. 129 at dealer u r probably paying 100 for service and 29 for product..

I just noticed that they didn't even replace the wiper blades per the last post.

Man this car is getting expensive! I just replaced my second tire this year, and all were new last year. Anyway the first had a bubble, got it replaced at a tire store ($350 instead of $515 at MB - same brand) and bought their warranty. Mercedes rotated the tires and a few days later my tire pressure gauge said it was 29 instead of 36. So I filled it up with air and the next day it was 30.

So I went to tire shop and they said that's not the tire they replaced and they need to order a new tire because the tread was less than 50%. So I ordered a new tire ($350) and a few days later it came in. Oops, it's not the tire! The wheel is cracked and beyond recovery, and can't be welded.

I asked how much the wheels are and he laughed and said a lot. So I said forget it and went to MB - the same service guy said it's not covered under warranty and the wheel is $1200, but he'll give me a "deal" for $1000, but then came to 1150 after tax and labor. At this point, I figured what choice do I have. I got the tire and wheel replaced.

So in the past month I've spent $2500 on the car! Hopefully I'm done for a while!

You know MB offers a warranty plan for your wheels and tires, for about $500.00 and it includes replacement or repair with no deductible.

Thanks, well yes I know they offered it, but had no idea it was so cheap. He even asked me if I had it and I said no, how much is it and he made it seem like it was expensive, but he never mentioned a price. I'll call them tomorrow and look into it, because that would be great because I'm sure it will happen again, the tires at least.

I think it's around $1,200 for 3 years or 30,000 miles, so probably not going to work anyway. Do you have 19" AMG wheels?

Hmm. Was it the official MB coverage or something by the local dealer? They went over the extra coverage options for me on Saturday, and it was definitely around $1,200. For $500, I'd buy it just for the heck of it.
