Need opinions on buying an S550
Long story short: I have a 2010 E550 that is being bought back from the dealer b/c of some warranty issues. I am looking to purchase a used S550 to replace it. The dealer has a CPO 2007 S550 white with grey interior, no options-none. The car has 25,000 miles and they are asking $49,500 (they also have had the car for a while).
Now a few things:
1. First I LOVE the car, I mean wow is it great to step up here from an E. It does not have the performance of the E550, but it makes up for it in comfort.
2. I love white cars, but grey interiors are blah (I would much prefer saddle, tan etc).
3. I love options such as keyless/cooled seats/sports pkge. I know I could put on a nice set of rims (and certainly would) and a wood steering wheel, but will that be enough?
4. Resale will probably be hurt by the lack of options (but I am saving $ for the same reason) .
5. I like the low mileage and they will throw in an extended warranty (CPO) plus I could probably get a few $ off.
6. They have no other cars in stock I want (or can responsibly afford/justify )
7. The dealer has taken care of me so well that I do need to get another car from them.
I have considered a new S550, but I can't get past the sticker shock. I wanted to get some opinions on this car/situation (opening pandora's box now ). Thanks

Maybe it's just me, but I would absolutely want at least some of the options in a car of this level. I recall that 2007 models came pretty bare bone by default. Otherwise, it's just not the same experience. I selected the options for my 2010 S550 very carefully, and have to say that each of them is worth every penny (even the ones I thought I'm getting just for kicks and giggles).

I wouldn't buy it without premium leather. Cooling seats are very useful and nice feature. White is beautiful on the S550, but Id want black interior.
I think the s-class without the options really takes away from the experience. I get irritated they don't make the S550 with all options like the 600 - that they have to be bought seperately. I remember where most things used to be standard.

P2 (gives you heated/ventilated front seats, Parktronic, and Keyless Go)
Dynamic Rearview Monitor
Wood/Leather Steering Wheel
Active Body Control (typically, cars with this option are fully loaded)
I personally don't care at all for the Sport Package (don't like the looks and the ride quality), Nightview Assist (distracting, poor image quality, no audible notification), or Premium leather (individual taste). ABC is what truly gives you the "sporty" feeling; the ride is absolutely amazing. There are some options I got (like the Rear Seat Package) which are more luxury than function, so this is something you can probably live without. Distronic Plus is also something that you may need or not; I love the Blind Spot Assist but I'm not sure it was available on 2007 vehicles.

Sorry to hear what happened to your E. What dealer buys it back ? I'll make my next purchase from this dealership. MB is a kind of car - you never know what will happen the next day ))
Whatever your decision with S - good luck ...it's a very nice car. I'd prefer it at least with P2 package, but even P1 for the right price and low mileage is Okay....You def can get P2 package low mileage car for $46K-$49K....
BTW...I saw this white S you wanna buy - very nice car...good luck.

Why not have them install a wood/leather wheel for you (toss it in).
I've been doing a lot of looking lately at price/mileage/options and that price still seems high for a bare bones S class.

The ride of the S class is to behold. My previous S was 2003 and I loved it. My 2009 S550 has P2 and I absolutely love the Keyless Go! Although I enjoy the sound and sportiness of my C63, every time I drive my wife's S550, I realize the S ride is what Mercedes are all about. I have gone through multiple E's in the past, go for the S and you will never look back!

I would say absolutely go for the 2007 S550. About 3 weeks ago I purchased a used 07 with 46k miles in Dallas, Tx from texascarsdirect.com. Got it for $44k for a base model with parktronic, wood steering wheel, heated/cooled seats, bluetooth phone adapter. I went ahead and paid another 3K to get an extended warranty for coverage to 96k miles so if you can a get a CPO from an MB deal then even better.
The car is ever better than I could have imagined. I traded in a 2001 Lexus LS430 that I've had for ten years and absolutely loved so it took me a while to come to this decision. Right now I'm super happy and while I like the 18" wheels on it I think I'm about to pull the trigger on some 20" rims that are sportier.
Cheers,
Mac

Just sayin'
What about looking at the used car inventories of the other dealers on Long Island/Bklyn/Queens/Manhattan, through the MB website search, your dealer should be able to aquire one if you can find it. I bought a brand new Black on Black 09 S550 4matic with P2 from Sovereign MB, got them to throw in a tire warranty, first oil change, all weather mats, free Saturday car washes and one free detailing per year for $75000 + taxes. I went thru fleet sales. This is my fourth MB and by far the best car buying experience I ever had. I unfortunately also had not 1 but 2 bad MB vehicles in the past, and that just sucks, the first time MB stepped up the second time the dealership did, so I know about wanting to remain loyal to the dealership. Just remember at the end of the day you will have this car for a while get what you want. One last peice of advise you probably developed a relationship with your service writer, so use that relationship and get a printout of the repairs done on the new car, you don't want another problem.

Depends on the indivdual but some options are a waste of money, my sister's car has fully loaded options but could care less for most of them. Only option I like is keyless but really can I live without it? heck yeah. Get the car, white is so nice.

some things you will want then to do first, update the telematics, you will now have the options of the 09, you can have other options installed such as rear camera, rear parktronic, remote start, night vision, etc... that can be installed after the fact and still look operate like factory
PM me if you need help or if you dealer does not know how. or call me it is easy to figure out my number

I should find out what the deal is this week, the dealer is looking for a car for me; if he can't get anything for the right price I will look at this '07 but for the right number. I will certainly go right for a set of appropriate mature 20's and make sure she is tinted. Then as soon as the weather breaks she and I will spend the better part of a day in the garage getting a full Zaino treatment (my usual bonding day event with my new car)

Wow, kudos to your Dealer or taking that car back off your hands.
Congrats on the future S, I'm sure it'll be above and beyond for you. I've always thought if you REALLY want to experience what Mercedes-Benz is all about, you've gotta go flagship, namely S-Class.
Options wise, my old S500 had everything, Massage Seats, Heat/Cooled Seats, rear seat package, ABC Suspension (amazing), Distronic (also amazing), Parktronic (extremely amazing, I am replacing 2 bumper impact strips on my E due to my parking skills and lack of Parktronic).
Those really made the experience of the car great, however to be honest, when I look at 221's myself (always feel like the car is luring me in), my only real "must have" is the AMG Sport Package. Were I to seriously go forth with buying one, I'd just cross my fingers and hope it had at least DD Seats, Parktronic, etc.

If you never had most options you don't miss them. I like the options mine came with and don't miss the ones that I couldn't get. No one will agree with me but hands free is the most useful option I have and you add that easily from the dealer.
