Shipping a brand new Mercedes
Hi,
I want to buy a new 2010 S550 and ship it to Saudi Arabia, the problem is the dealer require me to pay the tax and registration which is about %10. Is there any way that I can ship the car without registering it in the US?

The best deal I've got is that I can ship it but I have to pay the full MSRP with out any discounts because MBUSA will charge the dealer $$$ if they knew that the car was shipped out of USA.

You have to sign a document saying it will not be exported for 12 months. If MBUSA learns of the transaction they will issue a chargeback to the dealership (thousands of dollars). Good luck finding a dealer willing to take this risk.

I was thinking the same thing. Although I thought the penalty was against the individual b/c of that document.

Check on autotrader or ebay. There are many 2010 S550 that have 100-500 miles and you can export them. as long as you are buying the 2010 from someone who has the title on hand you can ship out of the US. These 2010 would be considered used and not new, so you don't have to worry about MB USA. Good luck.

It's simple: Buy it from an out of state dealer and tell them you will register it in your home state yourself. They will give you temporary transit plates and off you go. They never need to know you've shipped it out of the country. This assumes you're paying cash, of course.

Dealers have caught on to these tactics a while ago. You used to be able to buy cars from out of state and the out of state dealer would ship you the car + MCO and expect you to register/title the car in your state.
Of course, people exported these cars to their country of choice. Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, etc.
So now out of state dealers will send the car registration paperwork to the DMV of your state. N. America MB dealers get heavily fined and penalized for sending cars out of the US. The only way is to pay the registration and tax and then ship the car with the title (not MCO). This way, the dealer can wipe their hands clean if the end-user decides to ship the car out of country, even though they shouldn't.
I believe MB, BMW, Audi, Porsche, and other german brands have adopted the same rules. Japanese brands may be more lenient.

I totally understand Ahmedito intention. Because the same car cost about $160,000 in Saudi Arabia. Many people believe that prices are determined by local MB dealers in their countries and this is totally not true. Mercedes Benz determine the prices for each market and dealers have only some limits to play with prices. This price discrimination is totally unjust. Their basis for this is differences in price elasticity of demand between markets as they claim. But this doesn’t justify 50-60% price increase between markets. This is a monopolistic price discriminations and what he is doing is a clear example of arbitraging a commodity between two markets.

Just check on ebay the S63 with like 20miles in CA. I think the asking is like $144k (this might be higher than the sticker!!) but I guess you'll always have ways around MBUSA.

I think the best way to go with a used S550 2010 or brand new with taxs. Actually it is hard to find a used 2010. Any way a car in the US cost $100k will cost $165k in Saudi Arabia !!! while we only have %5 import customs charge over there.

That is truly one of the loudest interiors I have ever encountered on an S-class. I believe the only rival would be the vibrant blue Brabus installs on Mercedes.

I am actually surprised that they will well you a car knowing that you are shipping it out of the country. MBUSA takes allocations and charges money to the dealer. They must need to unload cars.

Car Whore
If I paid cash for my car from an out of state dealer, I would get the title.
I would not be required to register it here in California, what would California do if I didn't? Nothing. They have no right to force me to not move it out of the state before I registered it and/or shipped it out of the country.
Once I OWN the car, I can do whatever I damn please with it.
I simply cannot legally drive the car if I don't register/pay tax; but if I'm shipping it out immediately, I don't see why that matters anyways.
Just find someone in the USA to help you out and buy one cash for you from any dealer.
OR, I could have the title/registration sent to Oregon where there is NO SALES TAX and just pay the small registration fee, though I really don't see the point in doing this either as I could just ship it out as soon as the car and title arrived, not having driven it once on public roads.
Whether a car is marked as "new" or "used" is simply "record keeping" considering the car is leaving the country anyways.
If its a <500 mile car, it doesn't make a difference if the title has already once been registered to an owner........
