Pads and Rotors

Hey guys,

I had my car's pads and rotors serviced at a friends garage a few days ago. I bought the pads and rotors and he installed them. Now I'm getting a message in my dash saying that the "ABS & ESP systems are inoperative". I'd rather not go back to Mercedes and lose my car for a few days, any ideas what could cause this? Just front pads and rotors were installed.

Thanks

Did he disconnect the ABS system? In the older cars that were purely brake by wire you used to have to disconnect the abs system before doing a brake job. Since he is not an MB mechanic he might have been playing it safe or just didn't know that these cars don't need that done. If he disconnected the system he might have forgotten to reconnect it. Only thing I can think of...

Did you hook a computer up to the ODBII port to see if it you can reset the warnings . I'ts likely the car threw a warning when the brakes were taken off/apart, and it just needs to be reset.

I was told the battery in the ABS connector went bad. Didn't even know there was a battery in there

Did you have to take into the dealer to get them to diagnose and fix it?

so how can you avoid this error message to pop up when you do a break job by yourself??? How about if you keep the break pads in the same distance as they are on the rotor, so the piston doesn't come out to much. Would that help? If you change the wear sensors, does the break light come up?
