Exclamation 2007 S550 OPTIONS QUESTION

What options were available for the 2007 S550? Was there just a P1 and P2 package? Are HID Xenon lights standard on all of the S550's?

I'm looking at one for sale that has the following and I'm not sure if this is good or bad. I know with the CLS I wanted the P2 package but I'm not sure about the S Class. This one has the P1 and some extras.

Let me know what this is missing and/or what the other packages have that this one does not. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

S550V
Black
Black Premium Leather
P1A: Premium 1 for $1250 added

Power rear side window sunblinds for $700 added

Rear seat package for $2900 added

Says total sticker was $100,575 originally.

Out of the 20 viewers someone has to know if this is a good options list for the S550. I don't want to miss out on the car if it's a good buy! The car has 36k miles and they are asking $48k for it.

I know it only has the P1 package but it appears they added some of the features that come with the P2 and P3 packages.

Please advise. Thank you for the help.

I wonder if this used to be a fleet vehicle (hence, the Rear Seat package and rear sunshades but the absence of some other useful options for the driver, such as Keyless Go, ABC, Distronic, front Dynamic/Multicontour seats, and Dynamic Rear-View monitor).

You know I didn't think of that although it makes sense now that you mention it. How can I find that out? They told me it was owned by a woman the entire time. I'm not too worried about Dynamic seats and Keyless Go isn't the end of the world although it would be nice to have.

What are ABC, Distronic, and the Dynamic Rear-View mirror?

Basically, a way better ride with two settings (sport/comfort), smart cruise control, and rear-view camera respectively. Check out the brochure, it has some feature presentations on all three of these.

I would pull a Carfax to check the history, a "fleet" sale should be something they record, in my opinion.

They sent me the carfax. The weird thing is that it doesn't show the complete vehicle history. The carfax report only starts from the day they put it for sale which was last week. There are no prior records listed before that.

ABC is a sophisticated suspension system that makes the car handle great. It's driven by a tandem pump (does the ABC & power steering) and sends fluid to all 4 struts. There are pressure sensors in the struts that allow the ABC computer module to check for body roll and straighten out the car. The handling is drastically improved with this feature. I have ABC on my CL55, and Airmatic (no ABC) on my S550. You can guess which one handles nicer. Distronic is a radar-based cruise-control. Say you're going 70, someone jumps in front of you at 60, the car brakes automatically, speeds up once they are out of your way. Also available with this radar is the pre-safe brake, read up on that. Also, when you have Distronic - you also get the Parktronic functionality without the nipples in the bumpers, car looks a little cleaner.

Dynamic rear-view monitor (not mirror) is a camera view that turns on when you back up with part-assist lines rendered to help park. Really nice feature.

I would recommend you look for a P2 car, (P2 has rear-view camera & partronic) and ABC + Distronic are big pluses. Keyless-go is a nice to have (mine has it), it's good when you're hauling babies to free your hands, but I would opt for other features if I had to choose.

Thank you for the detailed description. The ABC sounds like something useful. The distronic I would have no use for as I can't even remember the last time I've ever used a cruise control option. And the reverse camera isn't a big deal to me either. Nice to have but not a deal breaker.

I agree that Distronic is not that important on 2007 models, since it didn't add the Blind Spot Assist and Pre-Safe braking stuff (both being amazing safety options I can't even imagine driving without now). Of course, I don't commute as much, so your mileage may vary.

Yeah, I notice that my fingers spelled "mirror" instead of "monitor" ;-)

The truncated Carfax is a major red flag.

I agree and asked them for further details on this. Waiting to hear back now. The AMG is the most important to me along with the Wood Wheel.

Mine's an '07 and the Distronic has the pre-safe brake. I really like the Distronic feature, but would not have opted for it unless I driven a car that had it. Very nice for long drives.

This is not a home run type deal, you will find something with more features for the same or less money with similar mileage. Find a broker/dealer that can get a lease return for you.

I would prefer a non lease vehicle. People tend to "beat up" on leases more often than someone who purchased the vehicle new and is selling it.

I purchased 3 cars are lease returns - old S600 coupe, my CL55 was 28k miles lease return and my S550 was a 25k mile car - all were very clean and any issues were taken care under warranty after I got the car. If you want to pay retail - go for it, otherwise you can find a real clean lease-return and have a lot more bang for your buck. Don't drink the dealer's cool-aid: most of the cars that are sold as CPO or at random dealer lots aren't trade-ins - they are lease returns that come from the auction.

Most S550's are leased, few people buy these cars outright or through notes (leased vehicles are fine, exsp MB's since most people service the cars at the dealership- and these are not the type of cars people beat on). I LOVE distronic, it is one of the coolest features you can have. I would run my own carfax, something does not sound legit. Price is pretty good for a non CPO car, very weird options though-I wonder if it was for some one who had a driver (why would you have rear seat package w/o P2?). As great as the ABC system is, the car handles amazingly well without it. My main criterion was to get P2 CPO and low miles.

Also check a local dealer, they can pull up the full service history which will show you services plus how much warranty work was done. Through my search I saw a few vehicles that saw the service bay quite a few times, something I would stay away from...

I just spent over an hour on Autotrader, Ebay, and Cars.com and didn't find anything under 50k that is Black with the P2 and AMG package with decent miles.

Yep, that is the average prices now. To get a GOOD car you are going to pay low $50's. I saw a few cars in the high $40's, but they all had scary lineage like people owning the car for 6-9 months, two people in a row--- WHY? I would rather pay a little more for a CPO car with few service visits and well optioned. This is not the type of car you want to snag an awesome deal on (you are getting a deal for a reason). Just do a search for the computer ARRAY that is located behind the rear seat, my god is this car complicated....

There are quite a few computers located behind the rear seat along with a second full size battery to power them. The whole compartment is 10-12" deep. It is just an example of why you want a car that has proven to be reliable (few service visits)...

Ah ok, got you now. Well I'm looking and keeping my eyes peeled. I think I've pretty much made up my mind on the S550 now over the CLS. The MAJOR changes with the CLS makes the decision alot easier.

Check out this thread about half way down to see pics of what is in this car (I saw this pics and rethought what type of car I wanted- as is reliable):

Is the "charcoal" interior considered to be the Mercedes "Black" interior for the S550? Or are these two different interiors?
