hi,
I'm also currently retrofiting facelift headlights and I'm also currently experiencing some issues. I recently found out that one of the XLAWA is deffect so I'm waiting for a new one... anyway, does anyway has an experience with correct coding of the SAM unit or anything else? I dont wanna any modules or anything that isn't original, I want it to be the same way like it would be installed from factory... I have a new sam - already coded, I know I have to buy a new headlight switch in order to use enhanced fog light function part number A2219053600 but what else. As I said my SAM was already coded, so low beam, high beam, night vision, DRL - all do work except ILS functions, maybe the new XLAWA ECU will solve it, but I honestly doubt that it will be so easy... previously in this thread there was mentiond that someone has also got all the stuff already coded and also had to do some magic with star diag. can I pleas know what it should be? If nothing works, I'll try to make a completly new SCN coding at local MB dealer, maybe that will help

Hey, my autoelectrician installed it as per instructions. Apparently, the Problem is that each headlight has 3 modules, one of which is the Xenon Module, otherwise known as XALWA L +R (for left and right).
This module needs coding to tell it to become active for things like active cornering, highway mode, and other ILS functions. Am going to see a MB Specialist soon as this kind of coding to the front SAM needs to be done in Developer Mode, as MB cant do it using standard STAR diagnostics. Will keep you posted.
This is the item.

Sorry, no progress on this so far. Been to 3 or 4 MB dealers, all tried the STAR diagnostics but just could not access the XALWA functions through the facelift SAM unit. So not sure if it's the modules, sam or ebay kit or something else.

Prash,
Just get yourself a 2010 and up Central Gateway Module. This module can "talk" to the newer modules like your front headlights.
Steps: 1. Disconnect your Central Gateway Module under the steering wheel, slighty to the left next to the hood latch.
2. Using STAR, go to the headlamp modules and right into developer mode. All your existing modules will throw an -F- because again, the newer Central Gateway Module cannot "talk" to the older ones. Dont worry.
3. Go to the headlamp section and activate all the options you like.
4. Exit out of STAR.
5. Plug your Central Gateway Module back in, and do a quick test.
6. You will see that all the -F-'s will disappear except for the Front SAM and the Headlamp Modules. These will remain with the -F- and still work fine. There will be no warnings on your display.
7. They will always remain as though they are in Fault because your Central Gateway Module cannot "talk" with them.
Mine have been like this for a couple of years now, no problems at all. Everything works fine.
This was easy to do, no big deal.

@greekviking, thanks very much for your help. Today I have ordered a 2011-12 S-class CGW module, also know someone who can SCN code it and then do the rest. If it works I may just leave it in rather than put the 2007 module back in. Keep you posted.

I dont understand why you buy this expensive module when you actually dont need it with the cabel kit made for this facelifting.

Well, this will be a start of a documented journey of my conversion to 2010 facelifted headlights. A lot of talk on this forum has been hearsays and rumors and no one seems to have a straight answer about how to go around doing the conversion the correct way.
A member on this forum pointed me to a vendor in Germany whom I shall not name here, but you are all welcomed to PM me for the source. Don't forget to let the guy know that you heard it from me. Anyway, this vendor claims to sell a "plug-n-play" kit for the headlights conversion which include a set of 2010 headlights, a set of wiring harness and 7 (yep, you read it right: SEVEN) new precoded light modules. So, all one basically needs to do is get to a merc mechanic/shop and replace everything and you should be good to go.
Since my kit was shipped from Germany only 2 days ago, and I am stuck in China on business at the moment, I probably won't be able to take a look at it for another week or so at least. But rest assured, I will post lots of pics of the install.
In the meantime, please enjoy these photos taken by the seller before the package left Germany 2 days ago:
Left headlight
Right headlight
The all elusive "plug-n-play" wiring harness and install instructions...
4 of the 7 new modules!
Let's cross our fingers and see how painless this conversion is going to be. The taillights conversion had been a nightmare....(let's just say I had 2010 module, but the mechanic still insists to hardwire the taillights but he got them to work in the end so.....)

2010 headlights conversion
I am looking to change my fog lights on my 2008 S550 AMG to LED DRL's and doing the headlight conversion you stated. Can you share the source and cost of the headlight package with wiring harness and modules you described?
