COMMAND problems after update?

Is it usual to have problems with the COMMAND after update? I read all postings from the following discussion, and it scared me a bit.

https://mbworld.org/forums/new-s-cla...w-s-class.html

I don't have an S550 "yet". I'm looking into a 2007 or 2008 CPO and will ask the dealer to update the NAV map prior to delivery. However, looks like the COMMAND can go nuts after the update. What do you think?

I believe the Command Update and the Nav. Update are 2 different animals..

Yes and no!!
Make sure the dealer you have it done with has previously done the Comand update. The experienced dealers get it done correctly, the inexperienced ones do not always get it correct. There are parameters that they must configure correctly. Then there are the dealers who say it can't be done, the update will not work with your car, Don't believe them.

After the Comand update is performed, you will get real-time traffic inof ONLY if you have a more recent NAV disk than the original one that came with your vehicle AND you live in or near a major city where the real-time traffic information is broadcast.

Thanks. This is the part I'm confused. I "think" COMMAND update is for COMMAND functions only. NAV update is for the actual map. Looks like many owners are doing both at the same time. If I'm correct, maybe the latest update requires "both" COMMAND and NAV to be done together...?

New technologies are invented to punish older people like me.

Maps updates are supposed to be something that every owner can take care of but sometimes there are software bugs that prevent the update running properly. There was one for the NTG2.5 units for their first map update if I remember right.

The telematics update can be performed without a combined map data update. I had these updates done in this order. The outcome was old maps (of course) with bird's eye view (we already had DVD video and traffic info for navigation even before the telematics update).

But I tend to remember that the new maps were not possible before the telematics update, someone must know this from experience. I thought we advised owners to ask their dealer to take care of the maps update to force them to take care of the telematics update too (but I may remember this wrong).

Owners really should have both done even if some workshops are really difficult and claim there is nothing missing from the car and nothing they could do for it. I believe several workshops don't want to take care of the task because they do not know the few things that have to be fixed by manual coding after the telematics update (in some cases at least the rear view camera needs coding and there was this Hybrid model setting that others have reported). I wonder if SCN coding today already takes care of these automatically or if manual coding is still needed.

Tried to update the NTG2.5 command on my 2009 ML 350. At the end of the update, the system got a error - ErrorCode : 0x2303. I tried to update again and now it is stuck in "software missing" screen and will not move out. Any help on how to solve this problem?
Thanks

0x2303 means that there is an incompatible firmware. You will need to visit dealer and ask to update firmware on your command unit.

Any way to get out of this "software missing" screen?

Took my 2009 ML 350 to the dealer and they re-installed the firmware. Command navigation system is back to operation. Everything works except the radio is stuck on one station and does not change. CD/DVD, Sirius, Nav, Phone everything works, but Radio does not change channel. It is on one channel and that channel works and cannot change to any other channel. Dealer wants me to take it in for another day. Anyone run into this radio channel not changing problem before?

I never had this problem before. But dealer can manually enter radio frequency through DAS. I'm curious if that works. Maybe radio module (DAB Tuner) need update as well?

"Software Missing" can generally be resolved by attempting the process again. BTW, the NTG 2.5 was never installed into a W221, which is what this group's focus is.

Latest map update for North America is 2015/2016 V14.0 Edition.I think it is not worth to pay for maps update. You should consider to upgrade your factory display to android display. You will have google maps, waze, carplay, android auto and bunch of other features.Check out this forum there are people who upgraded to android display.

2007 S600, 2007 Chrysler 300 SRT8, 2000 C5 Corvette, and 2017 Mustang GT, and just got a 2023 300C
I have both the map update and the command update DVDs but where do I put them in? Do I simply insert the DVD into slot one of the CD Player? Or is there a separate slot for the map DVD?

My car is a 2007 S600.

2010 and newer vehicles have NTG3.5 Comand system which requires a unique decryption code tailored to your VIN only available form dealers to install map updates

Comand update installation requires the use of a special Mercedes DAS computer system connected to your vehicle. If your vehicle currently displays traffic information or you can select the "birds eye" map display format, you do NOT need a Comand update.

If your vehicle is 2009 or older then simply insert the map disk into any CD slot and the update will start automatically. This can take as long as 45 minutes and must NOT be interrupted.

If your vehicle is 2010 or newer, you will need a unique encryption code specifically for your vehicle and the map version which is only available from dealers.

Be sure you have the correct map disk for your vehicle year.
