One touch sunroof closure

Has anyone changed the switch or mechanism so that you can close the sunroof with one touch rather than having to hold it to close?
Cheaper cars of all makes have this so why can't an S 600?

An S600 also does it if it has the standard sunroof or if it is not one of the early MY cars. Cheap cars probably don't have the pano-roof like your S600.

I still agree it is strange they dropped this, probably because of some safety concerns. I cannot help with your actual question but I would check the control unit part numbers, if the later ones have the same part, then a switch and control unit version coding (possibly SW update) would hopefully fix it.

Good idea! Thanks!

The Pano roof (all models) in the first year or two did not have one touch-closing. The shade for the rear roof section of the glass was the same. This was changed in wither MY08 or MY09 so that the pano would be one-touch closing and the shade for the rear roof section of the glass was also one-touch. Perhaps a software update or a new switch or both.

My 2008 S550 has the pano roof option, but only has Express opening, not closing.

Check out the online 2008 manual here,p489-491. The standard Tilt/sliding roof does have Express opening and Express closing. P487.

The 2009 manual here shows both opening and closing for the panorama sunroof and the sunshade.

P410 "Express operation: To close the tilt/
sliding sunroof completely, pull the sunroof
switch past the resistance point in
direction of arrow 3 and release."

Any info on programming upgrade welcome.

The best or nothing
My (MY08) has one-touch opening/closing of the rear share and one-touch opening of pano panel, closing is manual .. I believe it is more a feature than a bug? But would like to get it hacked for sure.

It certainly is a feature but one-touch closing was added at some point for the pano-roof too, I thought MY2008 (European MY naming) already had it. Is your car build date from early 2008 (I don't know when exactly this was changed but it was well before the facelift)?

You can hold down the Recirc button on the climate control and the windows and roof will close. Not exactly one touch, but it's better than reaching up and holding the button on the roof.

I thought this would not work on early W221 cars with a pano-roof, can you confirm it actually does work on a car that lacks the one-touch closing feature for the pano-roof?

One more thing, after you've closed everything using the recirc button, if you hold it down again, everything will open up. This also works on my ML. It's handy when I'm driving thru the countless Chicago constructIon zones.

The recirculation button feature has been there forever, I'm not asking if this feature works but I'm asking if this feature closes the pano-roof on a car that does not have one-touch closing from the sunroof button.

I tried it today and it worked on my pano-roof, so definitely I can confirm that it works because I don't have the one touch closing feature activated.

Thanks, very good to know. Quite strange what MB was thinking about a possible safety issue with the pano-roof if you operate it from the overhead control panel versus operating it from the HVAC panel. I'm sure they just didn't bother to change the HVAC feature and that is very good when they anyway brought back the pano-roof one-touch closing feature too.
