Night View Assist

We are in the process of getting a new S550. What do you think of "Night View Assist" option? Is it a useful option (gotta have) or not? For those who have it, do you use it frequently?

Thanks.

IMHO useless, especially without any audible notification of an obstacle.

Don't you see objects, obstacles, people or animals better than just looking through the windshield with the naked eye at night?

Thanks.

Agreed. At least in an urban setting. I find it's too distracting to try to watch the display and may end up endangering more people than it saves.

There might be something to it on straight, pitch black roads at night, but I doubt it.

However, I fully recommend the distronic/driver assistance package - having the radar up front is amazing - it's prevented several rear end on collisions in my S550.

It's extremely functional and useful, whereas the night view assist seems like a gimmick.

Perhaps it is a *bit* better, but constantly glancing at the LCD as opposed to keeping your eyes on the road feels dangerous to me. Additionally, the picture is quote noisy which causes me to get dizzy. This is just a personal opinion, take it at face value.

Cannot agree more. DAP is a life saver, especially the Blind Spot Assist.

Useful if you are driving at night with literally no other cars and no other lighting. I happen to live in a situation where this is the case at night so it is useful to me.

I spotted a deer with it when driving into the Yosemite area one time. Sees further than the high beams.

I thought the current night view "plus" system boxed objects plus had notification sounds. Perhaps not.

Thanks for all your input, I think I will focus on Distronic now rather than Night View.

Yeah no doubt distronic is much more useful than Night View. I use distronic plus on a daily basis and it makes life on Los Angeles freeways much easier.

Of note is how much better it works compared to other system I've experienced; Lexus, Infiniti, Audi, BMW, Ford ...

I find it somewhat useful, the places I drive are some times rural, and it is deer season....it could be better I guess....but then again so could many things in life....
if you mainly drive in cities or towns I don't see how it could be much help.....
and it is a cool wow factor for passengers.......but not much more,
try a night drive visit at the dealer and see what you think, that's the best way....
and having an S class, it should have all the options right? hehe....

happy trails

My very subjective take on that is get just the features that you want and will be using; that's fewer things to break ;-)
