As far as I know there is no such thing as true HID fogs (the ones requiring high voltage boxes, ballast, etc., like the headlights)

What you see people have in are the blue bulbs that burn brighter connected to the regular sockets... These things are a little more expensive then regular bulbs and burn out twice as fast.

IMHO, they are a little stupid, unless you are a teenager in a "Fast and the Furious tuner" car... And they are VERY annoying when some moron pulls up behind you with bright blue or purple headlights, parking lights, brights, and fog lights all on at the same time...

Dont get me wrong, I like the LEDs as DRLs and changing out a parking light from yellow to clear can be fun, but just don't go over board... Also in many areas the brighter "blue" or "purple" bulbs are illegal and have printed on the box "for off road or show use only"

Egauster, you are wrong, its correct you can't buy oem hid fogs...but you can easily put a aftermarket hid kit in the fog lights

You do need a ballast for the bulbs otherwise they won't power up, but that's why you need the aftermarket kits, they come complete with bulbs and ballast and just need ground and power and they work..

You headlights use 4300K bulbs so if you want to get the same color in the fogs you should get that color, I changed my bulbs in the headlights to 6000k and the same in the fog lights it gives a more white/blue color instead of the yellowish stock color..

Its H11 bulbs in the fog lights and D2S in the headlights, but changeing the headlight bulbs requires that you take the frontbumper of

I stand corrected. I thought those were retrofits from headlight kits not specific to fogs...

Be courteous however with their use... Ive noticed some other posts about the blinding issue and the install--

"You need to install resistors so they don't trigger a warning or flicker. The second thing is that an entirely different type of lens is needed to use an HID bulb in the fog. The stock set-up will cause some extreme glare to oncoming drivers. Use a projector fog lens and resistors. You will be fine. "

Good luck

PS: Please no more bright purple and blue lights out there!

Ctdk you dont really need to take your front bumper off to change the headlight bulbs.I installed hid in both headlights and fog lights. I belive its D2S or D2R bulbs for the headlights and H11 hid kit for the fogs

I have hid's in my fogs. You need to buy the specific HID kit for our cars.Because the normal kits will cause flickering and all the good stuff. It's about $100.00 for the kit for our cars,if you wanted to know. 5000K is the brightest, and the 6000K is close but has a tint of blue.I have 6000k in my fogs, and love them.

How do you install the foglights and headlights? Can you do it without removing the bumper?

You can just zip tie it to the metal bracket behind the bumper. The ballast are waterproof anyways,so it wouldn't matter. I think the seller was Hidny on ebay? something like that...I don't remember on top my head.

No.I wish I went with the S550 before I got the 6 series. I spent over 10k on the M6 conversion, which I just left on the car at trade in.

I just finished installing hid fog lights in my car and they are bright but they don't really illuminate the road that much. I was wondering whether the white piece which runs parallel to the bulb is supposed to be positioned to be above or below the bulb? Right now it's under the bulb and I tried rotating the bulb to make it sit on top but it seems that the only way the bulb will click in the socket is to have it on the bottom.

You need a canbus or "error free kit. There is a resistor already built into the ballast to mimic the voltage of the regular bulb. If you don't use this type kit the car will alarm you of a bulb out. It will think the bulb is out. These kits will cost you 100 compared to the 50 you'd pay for a regular kit.

well im not getting any bulb out warnings and theres no flickering of the bulbs. I was just wondering whether the cathode bar should be above or below the actual bulb when installed?
