Why a 2010? You should seriously consider just getting a 2011. As for numbers, I paid less for my 2010 brand-new than what some used 2010's go for...
Negotiate hard - the 2011 is (I believe) the LAST year before the S550 gets the new engine, at which point, I presume the values on the old-engine cars will plummet.

I am looking to get into the 2010 due to the cosmetic changes. I own a 997 turbo and updated the rear lights to the new 2010 lights. The finished product was great but dealt with error codes for a while and looking to avoid that nightmare again. I think the 2010's will dip into the high 60's in a few months and I will then jump in

Hey I love the S Class and have been driving them for over 10 years. I have done extensive research and am fairly well hooked into many people at various MB dealers in the know. No disrespect, however, when MB starts whispering about body style changes, prices start to plummet. Its a fact. I bought an 03 S500 4Matic Sport in 2006 from an MB dealer for under 50k with approx 25k miles. The sticker on the car was 104k. Just what I am hearing. I love these cars as much as you do I am sure, but they can be bought effectively if patient so I am discovering.

Absolute age means very little in car value depreciation; it's the model years that matter. For all intents and purposes, a MY2010 car is considered 1 year old in 2010; a MY2003 car would be 4 years old in 2006. W220 depreciated a whole lot faster than W140 due to the cost cutting measures, quality issues, and the unimpressive appearance. W221 was a major step up from a W220, so the resale values of the latter weren't as great. Considering that the W222 design does not seem that much different from W221 and the MSRP going up each year, I think W221 would hold value decently well.

I tend to agree that the W221 is a major step up from the W220. Will keep you posted on my search. Looking for Flint grey 4matic sport. Keep your eyes open for me

MBWorld Fanatic!
You are smoking something if you think 2010's are going to get into the 60's this year. I don't even think a salvage 3 wheel one will. Middle to late next year...yes. You said you bought a 2003 in late 2006.....I believe the new S550 came out in early 2007 so by 2006 you were going to get deals on the old body style.
It's like the 2011 CLS....you can lease them for $700-800/month.....but it's the last year before the body style change. The S won't have a new body until late 2013 or early 2014.
The SL is a good example....the 2009's are still in the 70s and that will get a new body style before the S does.

Not impossible...
I finally replaced my beloved '06 last November...
2010 Blk/Blk S550 for $75K(granted, zero options + $10K MB trunk money, and I am friends with dealership owner...)
But, used 2010s should be had for $60K range at this point...
