Should I...

Let me first start by saying that I just bought a pre-owned S550 last week and I am new to the luxury car scene.

I just dropped my MB off at the dealer to get the telematics updated since mine is an early 2007 and I am still running on factory installed software.

Well, instead of getting loaner, I opted to have one of their uniformed drivers drop me off at work in a MB since I am only a mile up the road. Should I have tipped him?

Just want to know what proper etiquette here is.

Thanks,
Sean

I never tip the dealer driver. You can be sure that they are properly compensated for what they do.

I've only had this happen on a VERY rare occasion. No, I've never tipped him. It's a fair question. But, he's not a taxi driver, his main source of income is not from customers, its from the dealer that employs him.

I think my outstanding skills in conversation are compensation enough for the guy. LMAO.

You didn't tip the poor guy? I would've at least slipped him a $50 tip... For god sake, he's a driver & probably lives on tips alone.. He probably went back to the shop & pooped a monkey bread into your gas tank, while mumbling "you cheap sunnababish.. take this... you dag nabbit gobley gook" Nah.. your good.. Congrats on your new toy..

I usually give the guy a few bucks, but thats my choice, and not protocol. He is paid by the dealer and should not assume that he will receive tips.

I always give $5 for coffee or something. First, you do not want to fit the stereotype of 'rich yet cheap mercedes owner'. Second, I know those guys make very little money from the dealership, and while they might not accept an outright 'tip', if you say it's for coffee, or $10 for lunch or something, they'll usually take it. Third, you never know when you might need a favor (oh, crap, I forgot my briefcase, can you you swing by my house before you drop me off?).

I always make deposits in the favor bank becasuse I know sometime I will need to make a withdrawal.
