s550 -not loud enough- Removed all resonators - added x-pipe

Ok I removed my first set of resonators [the 2x round ones ] and added an x-pipe there and also removed the last resonator before the muffler [the factory h-shaped big one] with 2 straight pipes,

and the car is still not loud enough. barely sounds louder then stock.

Anybody do a muffler delete? At first I had just the back resonator h-shaped one removed with the straight pipes but it sounded louder but not balanced and sounded like a mis-fire. So I added in the x-pipe and removed the 2 resonators [which people sometimes call the secondary cats] closer to the engine,it smoothed it out but also made it dead silent almost stock.

what are my choices now? aftermarket mufflers? s65 mufflers? or muffler delete?

thanks guys.

Do you have a sound clip of the x-pipe installed? Interested on how that sounds?

I will get a clip tonight.

the xpipe i put in today inplace of the 2 round cats really made everything sound clean but lowered the tones. very mild.

basically i got a couple options.. 1.muffler delete= i think it will be too loud?? too much drone? maybe put in my resonator with the muffler delete and the xpipe?

2. a 3-3500 muffler system
3. hack in some cheap magnaflows [have no clue how this would sound]

Did you use Magnaflow's x-pipes? I'm looking to add 2 1/4 x-pipes from Magnaflow. How much did the shop charged for the x-pipes and install?

cool, nothing like a super loud luxury car.

why in gods name would you do this to such a car. It goes against the whole point of the car.

Everyone has there own taste and style. Just cause its a luxury car, that doesn't mean anyone should not alter their liking on what they chose to do with it. Everyone is different, that's what makes the world go round. It would be so boring if everyone thought the same in this world?

custom stainless x pipe from a shop around here. i paid 150 installed. originally quoted me 200-250 installed.

right now its stock mufflers, x pipe for the 1st set of resonators [near engine] and straight pipe for the big h-shape resonator near rear of car.

sounds mild.cant even tell exhaust is modified at idle. for somebody who wants a mild sound, clean , this is a good combo.

i might just leave it. not sure yet what i want to do. i will try and get a vid of how it sounds with this combo. i opted to do the xpipe in place of the 2 secondaries because my exhaust guy said thats where it should have been from the factory closer to the engine. but who knows. lots of different opinions..

why is there so many companies making aftermarket exhaust kits for this car? i dont want it sounding ricey or super loud, just want to hear a nice v8 when i open it up
just trying to avoid spending 3500 for 2 mufflers and some piping. to me thats a rip off. thats just my opinion.

I paid 50 bucks to remove the mufflers (the parts immediately after the exhaust tips) and the sound was louder than my hummer with magnaflow exhaust. Straight pipe ftw!

Clips, please? I'm also interested in making mine more louder but I'm not willing to pay thousands of euros - so resonator/secondary cats/muffler delete should be fine.

still have to get a clip for you guys. i have not put aftermarket mufflers on. good luck finding anything used or ebay. next to impossible.

im probably going to try and find some magnaflows and try them out. i am getting my exhaust guy to use slip joints so i can convert back to stock easily if i want too.

Not the same engine but I removed mufflers on S600 (everything else stock) and it sounds perfect now. A nice low note at idle, loudest at around 1,400RPM...then quiets down to almost stock when cruising on the freeway.

So basicly there are 3 ways how to do this?

1) Remove resonators
2) Remove secondary cats if resonator delete doesn't make it loud enough

or

3) Remove muffler without removing resonators or secondary cats (And if this isn't loud enough, also remove resonators?)

^ From experience, your option 3 would make the car super loud! I enjoyed it, but my parents did not. It was louder than my stock s55 (2003) at idle and at 3-5rpm.

I'll get a clip of my current set up on my s550, with magnaflow later today. Audio coming from an android phone so... quality is eh..

Would this hurt the factory warranty? Resonator delete and adding an x pipe?
