Backup camera staying on

Does anyone know if it's normal for the backup camera to stay on after you have shifted into drive and started driving forward for a few seconds?

As far as I know that is normal. The W212 E-Class does the same thing.

Hey old thread! It would be nice if there was a way to turn on the rear camera without shifting into reverse. Mainly when parking on the street in front of a driveway just to be sure you're not in the red in back.

That's possible. The Mid CIty VIM (Video in motion) will let you do that. I can get you one too. I'm confused on how you would use it? Just to turn it on without having to reverse to see where you are?

My ML does that sometimes it can be very annoying.

I would use it to see if I am properly parked within the lines.

Hard to describe, but I'll do my best. Let's say there's a parallel spot between two driveways, and there's a car already parked in the front spot.
I pull up next to the front car, and then reverse into the space, since there's no car behind where I'm parking (driveway), I'm free to overshoot the back-in to get everything straight on the first try. Then shift into drive to go forward into the spot and clear the driveway in the process. Now, if the camera was on as I was pulling forward, I would know exactly when I could stop (no longer blocking the driveway), rather than pull farther forward than needed just to be safe.

In a car of this size, those driveway spaces are wonderful (and you're less likely to get bumped by someone leaving/entering a space or get boxed in
