Test Drove 2008 S550 today, coming from an E-Class

I test drove a 2008 S550 today for almost 100 miles and I have to admit it that it took a little while to get use to the size of the car before I fell in love with it since I'm coming from an E-class. The one thing that surprised me the most was that there was no XM/Sirius radio for this year and the dashboard/interior seemed very dated. Has the dash changed any since this model year?? Love the car, just not happy with the interior. I'm surprised it feels so dated since its a 2008. I'll definitely be buying a used one in the near future!

What did you expect, flashing dials and plastic buttons everywhere? The interior is beautiful and classy to fit the car and project simple and uncompromised luxury.

Not dash but steering wheel changed a bit keeping 4 spoke . Well, seriously I would like to see more buttons on the center dash as well
This is why I prefer W212 dash over W221 but it's all preference
The buttons on the dash looked and doors like plastic to me at first glance but later I realized these were aluminum lol

I believe MB designers think they have found a perfect dash considering even though they have executed facelift in exterior but they have kept the interior as is

The dash and interiour are amongst the reasons why I wanted this car.

Classy and understated almost royal, with all the options intelligently integrated in the Comand.

Almost like the old B&O stereo's from the eighties with not too many visible buttons.

It takes some time to learn to use the W221 Command system but once you do there is nothing better. I think it has all the right buttons and the logic is very well thought out. Classy in every way.

But again, you have to learn to use it properly. You don't need more buttons you just need to learn the ones you have.

Don't get me wrong, I think this car is classy in every aspect. I loved the command system!! Maybe if the dash was stitched it would make me like it more! I just bought a '13 ML last week for the wife and she loves it, so I am going to sell my sedan sometime next year and buy a used '10 S550. I'll probably wait til the '14 model comes out so I can get a better deal.

Mercedes/AMG must agree with you. The S65 dash is stitched.

so is the 600 and various designo models.

I'm not in love with the 221 interior either though.

The 2008 S550 does have sat radio standard. I remember when i got mine it took me 500 miles of driving to figure out how to switch to it.

To each his own. But I do like the W221 interior much better than the W220.

I really can't think of an interior I like better. Certainly not the BMW or Audi.

certainly a personal preference. I prefer the more traditional layout of the 220, but its not like the 221 is poorly designed or anything.

each is Different

We are all a bit different. I traded my E320 for my 2008 S550. The dash was one of the areas I liked most. For me, it is much better than the 220 before it.
