Replaced my 2010 S550 w/ 2013 S550

ok.. So I just traded in a 2010 for a 2013. Absolutely NO Comparison. I really loved the 2010, but it was time to trade up (Lease end). Needless to say, the new engine and tranny is uhm.. Amazing? Overall handling, response, and acceleration are incredibly smooth.. The one thing I love about it most?

Fuel Economy.. You can see a difference.

Now.. On to my questions with the hopes that fellow 2013 S550 owners can help me answer..

I've been thinking about an ECU tune (really more to lift the limiter and just a touch more power).. I'd like to get into AMG+ territory. Any ideas on reliable ECU upgrades and tuners in the South East Florida area?

I already have the 20" shoes on the car.. so no need to upgrade those. Just looking for a good reliable tune that isn't gonna mess with the car too much.

The only other question I have is warranty.. Any idea how it affects warranty? If so, I'd think about a secondary ECU unit (one with the tune and one stock) to switch in and out before service if necessary.

Any ideas on how ppl are handling this would be great!

TIA.

2007 SL55 AMG
Get the tune, its a lot more power for the price. The dealer probably won't know unless the ECU itself is physically damaged when the tuner opens it.

Do you think the tune will bring power in/around AMG performance #s? I just don't know this engine at all.

TIA.

if you get a tune, prepare for your drivetrain warranty to be gone. To think that if you have engine trouble, the technicians wouldn't be able to tell that the car has an ECU tune is ridiculous. MB is not stupid.

If you want to buy an extra computer and swap it back and forth, that may work, but its a bit dishonest and they will likely figure that out as well.

gotta pay to play.

I'm ok with my engine and drivetrain warranty going away. I'm more concerned with little things like parking sensors, etc. Just wanted to clarify whether or not the whole warranty on the car is voided or just the portions I've touched.

Any ideas on that or do I need to ask MB?

TIA.

no, the rest stays.

Magnussen moss basically indicates that only parts directly affected by aftermarket parts can be excluded from warranty.

That said, a crafty dealer might say that any fiddling with the electronics, including the ecu, could cause other electrical problems. You may be able to win that court case, but at what cost.

Get a Brabus chip, because as far as I remember and have read, it shouldn't ruin your warranty. And with their chip you should get really close to a stock S63 AMG or even more Also, everything is plug & play.

If you're in Southeast Florida, RennTech is seriously just in your back yard (Lake Park, Florida)

ECU upgrade to 530HP, much cheaper than Brabus. RennTech is ran by the former head of AMG North America. Definitely recommended
