Transmission Issue: Electric plate needs replacment

So I went to visit my mom about 90 miles away..upon getting to her place, the tranny starts acting weird...i tried to go up a hill but i'm revving high and the car is not moving. When putting into park the tranny shifted HARD. so i parked and let it sit for a few hours while at my mom's.

So after a few hours I left and car was acting normal again like nothing happened. Then the engine light comes on and again when I get close to home it starts doing what it did earlier..

So anyway, took it to mb, it's a tranny issue with the electrical plate..thank god it's covered under my Certified Preown warranty so I pay nothing.

What's your experience with this? did this happen to you before? I only have 63K mile on my s550 4matic.

Did my staggered rim setup contribute to this? wtf, i don't race my car, i baby my ride.

Thanks guys..

No i got 20's staggered and they are summer tires only. The factory 18's are for the winter here.

Staggered wheels should not make any difference as long as the diameter of the front and rear wheels are the same. The tire width should not matter to the transmission. One thing to note is that I believe Mercedes has NOT offered the option of staggered wheels on 4-matic vehicles. Does anyone know why?

I had a W212 E class with 4Matic and staggered wheels. The diameter of the wheels was the same, but they were staggered in width, front to rear.

Did MB happen to show how much this would have cost out of warranty?

Hey, haven't been online and didn't see this...anyway, the bill had everything zero'ed out. The only thing the mb person said is that it was expensive. I'll try to find out what it will cost.

Thanks

Good luck w/ the transmissions on these sob's.....

2007 4Matic Designo Launch w/ 77000 miles.

I posted in December when I had the first "limp mode" experience.

I just left $1100 usds w/ MB dealer to replace sending plate on valve body of transmission. It was faulting big time and the transmission would go to limp mode arbitrarily. Stop at stop light. Accelerate and there I sat. Shut vehicle off, recycle computer, works like new. It'd be fine for a few days. Go through a roundabout and exit and no transmission. Coast out of harms way and recycle. Sit at a intersection light and trans. would engage, but car would only "ooze" or limp forward at high rpm. Have to stop and recycle.

Interestingly, the sending unit isn't even new. The part was replaced w/ an MB "rebuilt" unit, the SA told me.

This is pure bs. This happens so often, at least as I read here, with the transmissions. There's an inherent flaw, imo, and MB is simply saying, "Up yours".

Sad. I have been driving MB since I left Audi's in 1988. Others are looking more and more attractive to me.
